my vet isn't sure which breed she is. she is two years old now and has a slender long body, long tail, round yellow eyes and a roudish chubby face. so is she a Bombay or a shorthair. I just want to know because I've always wondered which one she is. my vet said that she coul3d+ be or the other. oh and also she had a brother who was a grey tabby, if that helps any. Thanks!

she is a quiet cat and doesn't meow very often at all. only when she's hungry or when she wants her toy mouse. LOL!!

I didn't believe she was a Bombay.

I found her and her brother (the tabby) when they were 5 weeks old. they were abandoned I think. so I picked them both up and took her and her brother home with me. unfortunatly, her brother Tiger had to be put to sleep on July 1 of this year because of sudden kidney failure!! I miss him sooooooo much!!

The Bombay resembles the Burmese much more than it does the American Shorthair. The cat should move sinuously and sensuously. Like the Burmese, they are solidly muscled and surprisingly heavy. The head is rounded and should not be quite as short as the Burmese. A slightly longer body adds to the pantherlike appearance. Eyes may be gold or copper. Close lying and satiny, the coat must have a high sheen like patent leather. Occasionally kittens will be sable, not black.
Now if her sibling was a grey tabby, I doubt she's a Bombay, but could have Bombay in her.

Unless you got the cat from a breeder of purebred American Shorthairs or Bombays, it is impossible to tell. Purebreds will come with registration papers. The average housecat is classified as a "domestic shorthair" or "domestic longhair". They are probably the results of many mixed breedings over the years of lots of breeds.

If her brother is a grey tabby she is more than likely an American short hair. She could have some Bombay in her.

You tell the difference by looking at your registration papers that you got when you purchased your kitten. If you don't have papers from one of the real cat registries - CFA, TICA, or ACFA, then you probably don't have a Bombay.

bombays are purebred. if there was a tabby in the litter, i would say she is a shorthair.

Guess what, occationally a siamese with throw back a black cat. Does your cat chatter alot? Could be an applehead throwback.
