Hi Brandy...half of the chocolate cupcake is unlikely will be fatal, but may give your kitty a tummy ache, perhaps even diarrhea. Just be sure to observe him for 24 hours if he is acting unusually different than you've noticed take him immediately to see a vet. Please keep in mind that even if cats like foods, may can be toxic for them so it's best to feed them feline treats rather than take a chance as some ingredients consumed over time can be toxic as well as fatal to your kitty's health.

I will include a website link below that lists foods that are toxic to our pet animals to help you in the future. If there's any doubt about any food items, withhold it to be safe.

Below is information from a veterinarian regarding chocolate and how if affects a felines health.

Chocolate toxicity is one of the most common 'poisonings' we see in veterinary clinics, especially during the busy holiday season (and Valentine's Day). We know to keep that chocolate box especially for guests or that gift box of chocolates out of Fluffy's or Fido's reach. But it is easy to overlook holiday baking with its more deadly chocolate forms – semisweet chips and baking chocolate.

Some cats tolerate chocolate better than others. Although the toxic dosage varies from animal to animal, everyone agrees that chocolate contains a lethal ingredient, a methylxanthine called theobromine, and that baking chocolate contains 10 times more of this lethal ingredient than milk chocolate.

Theobromine acts on four areas of your cat's body:

It increases the rate and force of contractions of the heart.
It acts as a diuretic, causing your pet to lose body fluids.
It affects the gastrointestinal system, causing vomiting and diarrhea and it may cause stomach ulcers.
It acts on the nervous system, causing convulsions, seizures and sometimes, death.

If you find that your cat has ingested some chocolate, call your veterinarian or emergency clinic immediately. They will probably ask you the size of your cat, the type and quantity of chocolate your cat has eaten, and how long ago it was eaten. Try to have these answers before you call. They then may tell you to make your cat vomit. This will depend on the amount of chocolate ingested and how long ago it was eaten. If your veterinarian or emergency clinic determine that your cat needs to come into the hospital, do not delay. The effects of chocolate toxicity may not be apparent right away, but do not let that lull you into a false sense of security.

It is hard to say. I know chocolate for a dog is toxic. I would call the vet to make sure. Better to be safe than sorry. Besides that was a lot of chocolate for such a small animal. I have done some research and it turns out chocolate is toxic for cats as well as dogs. I have made sources available for you to check out. I would call the vet ASAP. And see if you can do something to help the toxic dilute so it may not be so harmful. Other than that I would keep an eye on the cat. I have three and never leave chocolate out for them to eat. They get into everything! Good luck.

I hope the vet put your baby on antibiotics. This is the only thing that can fight off the infection. Young kittens can go down hill VERY quickly with what sounds like a systemic infection. Secondary to the infection itself is dehydration. I use unflavored pedialyte given with a kitten bottle or a syringe. (be sure to hold the kitten in an upright position while feeding so that no fluid accidentally gets into the lungs) It wouldn’t hurt to mix the pedialyte with replacement kitten milk. I also add a drop of honey or syrup, as their blood sugar can drop at times like these. Put the kitten on a heating pad. It is important that it’s body temp does not drop below normal. If the kitten is no better in the morning I would take it back to the vet and insist that it be placed on an I.V. I’ve been through this a few times and it can be very heartbreaking. I hope your baby can pull through.

I would not worry about it before they said that chocolate was toxic to cats dogs etc. I would feed mine chocolate all the time and it never hurt them they are still alive and well today although I do not feed them chocolate any more I have never had any of them to get sick when I did. as a matter of fact my little nieces cat ate a bunch of Oreo cookies a couple of days ago with a big glass of milk that was left on the table by accident and she is doing great. Your cat will be just find don't worry about it!!!! Hope this makes you feel Better!!!

Chocolate contains theobromine, an ingredient that is toxic to dogs and cats if they ingest a high enough amount of it. A one ounce piece of bakers chocolate can kill a small dog or cat, but bakers chocolate is very pure. Cupcakes contain a small amount of chocolate and it is diluted with other ingredients. It won't kill your cat, but the cupcake itself may or may not cause a stomach upset. You may get away with giving chocolate to your pets and not see any problems, but that doesn't mean it is good for them!. I wouldn't eat just a little bit of a known poison if I thought it would only make me a little sick and not kill me!!!

No, it will not kill him but he will probably have really bad diarrhea for a couple of days. The darker the chocolate the more toxic it is. So if it was just half a chocolate cupcake then you should be okay.

I don't think it will kill the cat but it will probably make he or she have a tummy ache since cat's cannot digest sugar. I would be sure though to prevent this from happening to much in the future.

Chocolate, beer, and onions are toxic to cats and dogs.

Check the ingredients of the cupcake to see if they were made of real cocoa.

regular chocolate should be ok, just make him sick- but baking chocolate is deadly! Call the vet if you're not sure- they have a list of how much the animal can consume without getting ill for its weight.
