I have a friend who I recently met through another friend. The three of us go hiking together, and I love the friendship we've formed. Now this guy is asking me out, though. I let him know I'm not looking for anything and he said he just wanted to hang out. So we went out, but it was definitely a date. He wouldn't let me pay for anything and opened car doors, etc. Now he keeps calling and asking if I want to go out. I haven't called him back yet, but I don't know what to do. I want him to stop asking to hang out one on one, but I don't want things to be awkward when we go on hiking trips. and I definitley don't want them to stop inviting me along on hikiing trips because of the whole thing. Why do guys always have to do this?? I really like him as a friend but just don't want to date him. what should i do??

then that is exactly what you tell him. Don't mince words... tell him you enjoy his friendship but that is where it ends. If he is unwilling to except a friendship then you have to stop seeing him. You have a right to your feelings and in the end honesty is the best policy.. always.

I've had male friends before who insisted on paying for things and enjoyed hanging out a lot. I would meet this friend of yours for coffee and have a heart-to-heart with him - explain that you just want to be friends and nothing more. Explain that his paying for things makes you uncomfortable and ask that you split the bill the next time you hang out.

Explain to him very sternly that you are interested in him on a friendship basis only. Let him know that you think he is a great guy and you like spending time with him and hiking with him but that you do not wish to date him.
