Looks like I am the only dissenter here. Dry food is not good for cats -- much too dehyrating and hard on their kidneys. Would that our cats were like dogs who drink great volumes of water every day. Over a lifetime of this diet your cat will develop renal failure earlier than cats feed a moist diet.
Cats evolved to get their moisture from the live prey that was their natural diet.
Even most veterinarians who know nothing about cat nutrition are coming to the conclusion that dry food does not keep a cat's teeth healthy.
Please go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article there on dry food and why it is so bad for cats.

Dry food only is perfectly fine, if that's all he wants.
Be sure to remember the following tips though:
--Give him a large, always-ready supply of fresh water. He will need this to make up the moisture lacking in the food.
--Do not use low-quality brands of food if you can help it. It is more likely to cause health issues for your pet, due to improper nutritional content and other such mess.
--Cats will eat out of boredom. If he is overweight, slowly start paring his mealtimes back to healthy levels of feeding. Also look into finding ways to get him some exercise. A simple dangling-feather-on-a-line cat toy promotes movement and instinct, and creates a simple, but effective, bonding situation between pet and owner as you use it to play with him.

Dry food is just fine. My vet recommended I add canned food to my cat's diet to increase his protein and oil intake in order to combat dandruff. He was NOT interested. I basically made due with dry food brands that have chicken as the first ingredient (e.g. Purina ONE). I did finally get him to eat fancy feast chicken gourmet, though. It took a lot of tries to find something he'd like. All my other cats have lived long and healthy lives on only dry food.

Dry cat food is actually good for your cat's teeth. I'm a Vet Asst and do alot of dental on cat's and their teeth can get bad!!!! Usually a cat will only eat what he really needs, has he been dewormed? He might be sharing his food with others in his stomach. Also, there is some good food for loosing weight from Science Diet. Call and ask your local Vet where you can get some and you might want to take in a stool sample to check for worms. Good Luck!

A good quality dry cat food is okay for your cat. But only feed it the minimum amount that is recommended on the bag of food. Your cat will live longer and be healthier if it is a it slim rather than overweight. Once an animal is spayed or neutered they need 25% fewer calories to stay healthy. Good luck.

Dry food is ok if it is a good brand with out a lot of fillers in it. Cats like alot of protein. Iif you get a good brand they will be satisfied and eat less and poop will be smaller formed. change thier food gradually if you change it to a better brand.Ask at your pet store for a good brand and feeding schedule and give the age of cat. you may have to try a lite brand or a senior brand if over 7 years. you can also rub some cooking oil down the front of his legs so he wont get hair balls during the shedding season plus will be good for the coat if all he eats is dry food . they do need a little oil in thier food .also lots of fresh water to help digest the dry food and keep your cat brushed daily with a soft brush to make him shine

It's fine to feed him only dry food. It has all his nutritional needs. By the way...there's nothing odd about that. I had a cat once and all he would eat was dry food. So if he likes it, keep feeding it to him. After all, it's a *lot* cheaper than wet food!

My cat only eats dry food too. Dry food is healthier for the cat's teeth and gums. If Charm doesn't want the wet stuff, so much the better.

I've had two cats become very ill from eating only dry food. They get cysts in their bladders and it's expensive to get them treated. Feed him twice a day, with about half a cup of food each time.
Find a canned cat food he likes, it might take some time. Mine like Friskies. I give them half a can each at night and they have dry food during the day. But they don't overeat. I would limit his food to about two cups -dry measure- a day.
