Morel mushrooms are extremely sensitive to seasonal conditions. They have been difficult, next to impossible to grow commercially because they are so cranky. So your best bet is to find dried morels in a store (usually a fancy grocery store) and go from there. Unless....you find that secret spot and check it about the time "May Apples" begin to appear.

Northern Michigan is still the home of the morel. The shrooms start popping around Mother's day. The condtions must be rainy and then followed by sunshine. The shrooms will start popping in the afternoon after these condtions are met. Morels can be found almost anywhere. There is a cute book called the Curious Morel which will give you all the lore and some good recipes. I live in Michigan and they pop up just about anywhere in my yard.
