Pickles are what you "do" to something, you pickle it...They are most commonly made out of cucumbers (like dill pickles, sweet pickles, gherkins, etc..) There are other kinds of pickles though, like pickled red cabbage and watermelon pickles..

A pickle is a cucumber. There are different types of cucumbers. Some grow large, some stay small. My grandmother makes sweet, dill, and bread and butter pickles from the cucumbers in her garden every summer.
A pickle is just a cucumber that has been "pickled"

Olives,
corn
pigs feet
eggs
zuccini
peppers

but generally when we say Pickle we are thinking of a pickled cucumber.
Relish is chopped up cucumbers with a few other things.
Hamburger slices are sliced up cucumbers
gherkins are very little cucumbers

Cucumbers are not the same as pickles. Cucumbers are a raw vegetable. Pickles are cucumbers transformed via a cooking process (adding vinegar, spices, etc).

They are the same in that they are the same veggie. They are not the same in that they differ.

Likewise, raisins are made from grapes. Although they both orginate from the same fruit, they are very much different.

Men and women are both humans, but they differ, too. :)

Pickles are just... well... Pickled cucumbers.
Prettymuch any vegetable can be pickeled by soaking it in a vinegar mixture for a certain amount of time.
That will usually give them a sour flavor, and change their texture.
That's why pickles don't really seem much like cucumbers, even though they are.
