It acts like an aphrodisiac. Kinda like cat nip. Except, it gets much more EXTREME.

Ok, First off, I just want everyone to know, I would NEVER hurt an animal. This question only is referring to a cat sniffing an olive, not eating it. Please!, what kind of a person do you think I am...

My cat loves to play with them, as you mentioned. He demands to be present while I eat them and if I do not let him bat one around, he gets very cranky and sulks in the laundry pile.

Fortunately, he does not eat them.

(And nor should he be allowed to, as that can be bad for a cat's health.)

Hi Tricia...some cats do react nutty to the olive fruit, however it is considered a toxic food source since many are stored in preservatives which are toxic to felines. There are many human food sources that cats seem to find inviting, however could some be fatal when ingested. I'll include a weblink that list "some" of the most toxic food items to pet animals. Please keep in mind this is a partial list as there are many more human food items that are not good to offer to our favourite companions.

Yes, it drives them crazy! We had a fat old cat that hardly ever moved but she acted like a psycho kitten with an olive. It was really funny to watch her go nuts over an olive when we couldn't even entice her with a live mouse!

YES! My cats love green olives. I first dropped them 1 because I wanted to show them that it wouldn't be good, & it wasn't tuna. One of them seemed confused, like is this food, or a toy? I tried giving them a little juice & they loved it. I only give a little, & doubt that it's too bad, since tuna has quite a bit of salt.

There is way too much salt in an olive for a cat, you can cause it to have kidney problems feeding it such things!!!!
