If it is done discretely, why can't the immediate family set up a camcorder to record the funeral service? I can understand if it is someone not planning the funeral, but if the only son of his deceased mother wants to tape the mass, why would the priest object? It's not like taping her death, or cremation.

If the family stated its wishes to tape the event for themselves as a final tribute to the deseaced then the Priest and or Church should have no reason to deny this request. unless it does not want the possibilty of other religions to see their rites. Just make sure you do not get in the way of the ceromoney or disturb the Priest in his duties by shining the bright light that will be needed to get a clearer shot into the Priests eyes.Hes only human to and may not aprecate the action however well meant.
And what would be wrong with taping the death or creamation except that it would be called morbid these days. In the past lots of people were cremated out in the open with family and friends attending.

the thought is morbid, but if that's what the family wants, and the priest objects, find one that doesn't.

i recently had a death in the family and i can't think of one good reason why anyone would want to have such memories on tape. it is painful enough to have in in your mind... it is not healthy. maybe this person should see a shrink.
we took pictures of the closed casket because an immediate family member couldn't make it on time but all parties agreed to distroy the pix afterwards.

Well yeah, if the family wishes it to be taped than its ok, however, if they family does not approve then it would be inappropriate. It should not be up to the priest to deny the family that right..

I remember many years ago when someone took a picture of a person in the casket. everyone talk & said this was so awful .the ?was ask how could they do that? it was talked about for a long time.people took the pictures & hid them no one wanted to look at a dead love one laying in a casket.but things have change! it's up to the family. we are to celabrate the dead & morn for the living.so i hope i have a big going away party when my time is up.

If that is what she wants, to remember the sadness forever. Its not common but if you can tape a wedding or baptism, then you can tape a funeral.

it sounds ok to me if the family wants it. The priest doesn't really has any right to object.

Video tape it, if it is the family wishes. Don't ask the clergy, tell him.

I feel the decision should be up to the family, not the clergy.
