Yes, I call them poor mans donuts.

I buy a cheap can of biscuits, heat oil in a pan on medium high heat and deep fry the biscuits, doesn't take but a minute on both sides, then roll them in sugar and cininimon.

Biscuit Doughnuts
Source: Go Inside™
Not only a fast and easy way to make doughnuts, but they're good, too!
Servings: 10 Ingredients:
10 biscuits per can

1 Can Biscuits
vegetable oil
powdered sugar and/or granulated sugar and cinnamon

Directions:
While heating about 2 inches of oil to around 360 degrees in a skillet, open the canned biscuits. Take each biscuit and force a hole in the center of each. Place them on a dinner plate or waxed paper.

Start adding the biscuits to the hot oil. These will brown very quickly, so be ready to turn with tongs or a fork. When golden brown, remove and place on paper towels to drain.

Roll doughnuts in plain powdered sugar or granulated sugar. For cinnamon-sugared doughnuts, add cinnamon to taste.

they are good

My mother often did that when we were kids and at the time we thought they were wonderful, but that might be because her attempts at real homemade donuts were pretty scary.

She used the cheap refrigerator "whomp" biscuits and flattened them a little and cut the hole in the center with a bouillon cube can that was just the right size, or used the donut cutter. These were fried in a big pot of boiling shortening or oil until browned, drained a few seconds. and then tossed in cinnamon sugar in a small paper bag.

They were eaten while still warm and aren't too good cold.

We had the thin flat version too, made from the bisuits or biscuit mix, but were told it was "fry bread" instead of sopapillas. Those were eaten with honey and more successful.

It's not that hard to made the real thing so unless you really can;t cook, don't expect these to taste exactly like real donuts or sopapillas.

Yeah!

I saw it done on TV once. They took ''Whompum'' biscuits (the kind you hit on the side of a counter to open), poked a hole in the center and deep fried them until they were golden brown.

After removing the donuts from the deep fryer and allowing them to drain on paper towels, while the donuts were hot they were sprinkled with powdered sugar or dipped in chocolate syrup!

YUMMY!

My father loved to make them out of the canned bisuit dough. Some times he would smash the dough and put pie filling and then fry them. He called them fry pies, they were delicious. Hmmm maybe for a snack..

i've made doughnuts from biscuits, and they're delicious! as for sopapillas, you use tortilla shells...put for both of the above items, you basically just deep fry them...so easy...then coat them with a little cinnamon and sugar..
