I had posterior spinal fusion surgery in December 1996- My question is I've always wanted to have a motorcycle but have been a bit nervous about getting on. I went for a ride with my uncle on his bike and liked it- so my question is would it be wrong for me to eventually get a motorcycle and a motorcycle license as long as I stay in town......I have 2 rods in my back, and the Dr. said before that I shouldn't....but I REALLY REALLY want to and don't want to just be labeled the rest of my life as not being able to ride a bike. Thanks for any comments- suggestions . . . Keep in mind- I've wanted a motorcycle since like grade school.

I had scoliosis surgery in Oct 95 I had 5 rods put in my back. Your main problem would be a accident causing your back to break. Unfortunately there is no guarantee's that even if you stay in town you can keep from a wreck. But I would say that if you want one and you understand the risk's involved then get it. You only live once.

I suggest you listen to your doctor.
I have scoliosis and I would not do anything that would bring any more pain on myself. Would you rather be labeled paralyzed ?
I love horse backriding but you won't catch me on one today. I can't remember how many times i might have been thrown off. But to take the chance today would be ridiculous. I also have arthiritis, there's not many days that go by that I am not in pain.
Be thankful you had the surgery and take care of yourself.
Get your mind set on something else. Please for you own sake. I'm not trying to sound like your parent, but someone who endures pain on a daily basis.

Don't let anyone tell you how to live your life. Find out for yourself if doing that would be a mistake or not, then you'd only have yourself to blame and not the doctor. He/she can only give you advice, it doesn't mean you have to take it. Good luck in whatever you decide.
