With hard studying and if u speak the language with yr teacher or friends it will take u about 2 years. Learn and exercise what u learn is a wise combination in order to memorize the language.

I will disagree with Denizbt about the articles. Someone who is learning German can tell if a word is "der", "die" or "das" from the suffix of the word. If a word for example has the suffix -ung it is always feminine (Die)... There are of course some exceptions.
The most difficult part in German language are the prepositions. That's the hardest even for the native Germans.

It is a beautiful language and it is worth learning it, I know from personal experience. Good luck!!

I have been taught the german language for over 6 years, and i still do not know it fluently enough to carry on a comfortable conversation with a native german. but don't get discouraged. keep learning it. it is a very rich language.

That depends on how adept you are at learning other languages. The best way is to immerse yourself in it-take a German course and join a German club where you'll hear the language spoken or associate with Germans in your area-for thats the best way to learn-exposure and speaking. Wunsche Ihnen ein freues Leben(wish you a happy life).

When I moved to Germany 9 years ago it didn't take me long to understand the language, speaking comfortably took me about half a year. It probably wouldn't have taken so long if my wife and her children only spoke German to me. By the way...I'm still learning everyday. Schön Grüß aus Deutschland.

If you are immersed, like living in Germany, then probably about 3-6 months.
If you are learning it in school, then give it a good couple of years at the college level.

Hallo, es ist nicht möglich exakt zu sagen, wie lange man braucht um eine Sprache zu lernen. Es kommt darauf an, ob man einen Bezug zu der Sprache hat oder nicht. Es ist gut wenn man etwas musikalisch ist, um den Klang der Sprache zu verstehen.
Und dann gehört Fleiß dazu - jeden Tag lernen, lernen, lernen

good luck

If you try very, very hard...I'd say it could take two years. At a normal pace (such as the speed of a classroom learning environment) it would take four years.

But everybody is different.

1 or 2 years.
But you'll never completely understand the ''Artikels'' like ''der'',''die'' and ''das'' coming before words.
I believe even the Germans don't know all of them ;)
