The cost of a new puppy is significantly higher than the purchase price. Vet visits, vaccinations, high quality food, possibility of emergency care... they all add up. If you can't afford the purchase price then you definitely can not afford to raise a puppy.

That said, the best places to look for a low cost animal is http://www.petfinder.com and your local shelters and any area rescues. Most of them charge an adoption fee... but they will be checked out by a vet and much much less likely to end up costing you a lot in vet bills. Be wary of completely free animals... most of them have not had proper vet care and could be sick or carrying a genetic condition... that could add up to thousands of dollars in the first year, and as the owner it would be your responsibility...

Check the shelters first...

Sometimes free puppies aren't so free. If they haven't been seen by a vet you'll have to take them to get their first, second and third vaccines to protect them against disease. They will need worming too. And soon they'll need to be spayed or neutered. So that free puppy just cost you.

Try adopting a puppy from your shelter. The adoption cost will include a vet check and first vaccines and worming, some shelters even apply Frontline for fleas and ticks and a heartworm test, plus the puppy will either already be spayed or neutered or you will receive a certificate for it when the puppy is older. Most shelter costs for adoption are very reasonable.

Why are you looking for free puppies anyway? because the cost is right? If you can't afford to adopt or buy a puppy how will you afford to provide care for it?

Why do you need a FREE puppy? Just asking, but you usually get what you pay for, right? If you cannot afford to buy one, can you afford to take care of one for 10-20 years? Save a life and seek your local shelter. There are SOOO many puppies out there because people keep breeding them, or just not spaying or neutering the parents while MILLIONS of dogs die in shelters each year. PLEASE take the time and money and adopt a shelter or rescue dog. Have you even considered what type of dog you want. Would you want a double coated breed just because it's free? So many people get a dog and don't take into consideration the time it will take to care for that particular dog or breed.

Yes the costs of vets can be quite high and you have to be prepared for emergency visits too. We got all our dogs for free. I always said I would never pay for an animal. They are too much like family to bought like property. I have 3 dogs, all free, all mixed breeds of course! They all have a unique personality and one has the most unique look I've ever seen on a dog.

If you're wanting free because you can't afford an animal then don't get one. If you're meaning you want a mixed breed then check out local vets, animal controls, animal shelters, and newspapers. Our local paper lets us place free ads for things we're giving away.

You should look in the newspaper ads, in petfinder.com or in the local shelters. You won't find one on here.
