Do any of you personally know a family with anchor babies? I ask this because I know several. Being an American citizen (and to my Mexican husband's horror) I have bluntly asked several immigrants (status unknown) this very question. Only one woman said she came here for the medical care. Her first two children were still-born in Mexico. She had a healthy baby here. Four women got pregnant here and returned to Mexico for their prenatal care and to make sure they had "Mexican" children. Several others said they were pregnant when they crossed through the desert to be with their husbands when the babies were born. Their husband could not risk losing their jobs by going home for the births. After the babies were born, the families couldn't afford to go back home to Mexico. Of all the women I spoke to, not one, wanted their child to be a US citizen. That is why they make no attempt to assimilate or learn the language. In their hearts they truly believe that they will only be here until they can afford to go home.
Yeah, I know, most of us have the attitude of, "Get your butts in your untagged car and head south"! But it is not quite that easy. It is not unusual for a family to return to a rural area of Mexico and find another family occupying their home! The police are of no use to them. They either have a physical confrontation with the family which often turns deadly or they have to hope they have enough money to buy another tiny piece of dirt and put up a scrap wood house with cardboard walls.
I know it is frustrating for all of us Americans but when you really take the time to listen and look at their reality you will see that this is a far greater problem and much more complex than Anchor Babies.

There you go again with your "all" and "everyone" type of talk. Yes...they are using their children as meal tickets, as a way to "beat the system". Why are you finding that so hard to believe? Do you remember that story about how 22 illegals were jammed into a suburban which flipped when the driver turned to avoid a highway check point?..Well...one of the victims was many months pregnant. Not very responsible is it?

Look, I can see where you are getting this from, but that is ridiculous. Let me answer this from knowing people in the community.
More than half of the Mexicans who come here fully intend to move back to Mexico in a few years. Every immigrant I've spoken to is like yeah I'm going back home next year.. my wifes waiting for me.. Many times the men come to work and send money back home - things turn out to be harder than they thought and they realize they are not making enough to sustain their life here as well as their families back home. When they come their plan is to stay here 1-2 years, save money, and go back home and buy a house, a business, or land. But things never work out that way so eventually they send for their wives / kids. Catholics don't like to use birth control plus they believe in big families so they just keep having kids. It is never on purpose. At the very most its carelessness but not maliciousness.
All the majority of immigrants want is to go home - many immigrants have parents back home whom they never get to see again before they die. They want to go back but can never save enough money so they give up. That's where all the "demanding of rights" comes in - but as you can see from the Mexican flags they do miss their home and want to go home.
Anyway - They are NOT thinking that far ahead to 18 - 20 years later when their kids would be old enough to petition for them because they NEVER plan on staying here that long. They are not that malicious and frankly not that smart - they don't know anything about the immigration law. And having kids here doesn't stop them from being deported. When there are raids the kids are stranded behind so I don't see how that is a "anchor baby." http://www.oxfordpress.com/search/content/shared/news/stories/IMMIG_CHILDREN_COX17_W2090.html
Oh and about the ones that come right across the border 9 months pregnant and sit in the parking lot, etc. obviously that's not for her. That's for the child to become a citizen when he's born. Many times she will take that child right back to Mexico. It's for when that child is older he won't have to deal with the poverty that his parents did. The mother is risking her life just to give birth across the border.. I'm not saying it's right I'm just saying it wasn't for her it was for the child only.

I have only seen this happen one time recently and it was on last night's news. Nothing is the hell wrong with me. What the hell is wrong with you? Are you in a real big hurry to start paying $15 for a head of lettuce for pity's sake? On the news also was a feature of a large vegetable -producing factory or ranch where all of the crop was rotting in the heat. Why? Why there was no one to pick it. They had all been deported. You are in for a real trip thinking like you do.

Some do, all don't.
If they come here and have anchor babies deliberately, they ARE using them as a 'tool'.
They are illegally entering the USA.
What is wrong with YOU people?

Are you talking or yelling about the usefulness of a Tool? How can someone so "compassionate" and "humane" be so angry? Die a painful death? What kind of thing is that to say? Is it really that bad that someone takes the initiative to make an actual criminal pay for their crimes? I am confused by your hatred and humanitarian efforts. Oxymoron? Cheers Dear..:)

No one said all, Pancha, but what is a woman doing who is 9 months pregnant and walks across the border when labor starts and sits in the parking lot until labor gets far enough along to enter the hospital and get free delivery service?
Look it up on the internet. This happens all the time in border towns.

well i think that you along with hitler and most white supremists have a pretty good point .... so what are ur solutions? theres nothing wrong with me ...and ive lived in an area with a large immigrant farm work force all my life .... i dont have any problems with them ... and they never did anything to me or kept me out of a job .... oh yeah i know .... its the big negative impact on the economy right? WRONG ... the economy IS messed up but it isnt their fault its the federal reserve that is doing that ....so... just what IS your problem with illegals? they have been in this country since it was founded ... why all of a sudden the hatred ? could it be the propaganda ur tv is siphoning into your brain? imo there is going to be a new national id implemented in 2008 and basically you wont be able to function in this country without it .... illegals are going to pose a problem with the new system .. so propaganda is being fed to the population to get sentiments to deport them all .... this is how i see it.

Most Mexicans, but not all. I think they should take off wel-fare, except that the little children will suffer. But I don't know, we should mind our own beeswax, but just don't generalize. Don't judge the whole population just because of a few. I'm part Mexcian, and I am one of the hardest working students there are in my class, so don't offend a whole group of poeple just because of a few =)
