Put a few pair of shoes at the front door before they come and don't have shoes on when you answer the door. When the see both of these things they will know that it just something that you do at your home. And if they doesn't work just politely ask them to leave their shoes at the door.

To be honest, if its just the kids then it isn't rude to ask them to take off there shoes when inside the house. But to make it less awkward for the kids, have your Daughter warn them in advance that they will have to take off there shoes before coming into the house that way if there are any of them that have holes in there socks, they wont be embarrassed when taking off there shoes because they'll have been warned and have put on nice clean socks before coming over.
Now if it is the parents that are going to be there as well, then yes it would be rude to ask them to take off there shoes.
You could try the same thing and have your daughter tell her classmates to also tell there parents.
It is something for you to think about.
I do hope I have helped some.

Print out a sign for the door asking for people not to wear shoes in the house. My two oldest kids (who are 6 and 4 yrs old) are so used to taking off shoes that they remind their friends. It's not rude for wanting your floors to stay clean, people understand the reasoning.

How have you asked people that have entered your house in the past? I don't think the kids will be a problem if you just aske them at the door to slip off their shoes. Try mentioning it to the parents when you coordinate the project date with them.

Put a sign on the door or when the kids walk in you just say to them you can put your shoes here. Just act like you presume everyone takes them off as you walk in. The parents would be a bit harder you may just have to cope and just vaccum after they leave

I would not ask parents to take off their shoes. Kids for some reason usually do.
The only exception was when my daughter had a Japanese friend. The father was almost furious when the 4yr old forgot to take off his shoes.

I have the same policy at my house. All shoes stay on the tile inside of the house, next to the front door.
I politly mention to my guests that we keep the shoes at the door to minimize the outside grime on my new carpets.
So far, no problems.
I am planning on purchasing some el cheepo slip on shoe booties.

Well, I've grown up always taking off my shoes when I enter my house or someone else's. The kids shouldn't make a big deal about it; it is your house after all and I think it's a sign of courtesy.

Say if you don't mind please remove your shoes when you enter the house. I've had peopel ask me of that before, it's really no big deal on the person wearing the shoes but it may be hard to request that of someone in some cases.

Just ask in a nice way. Be sure to model the behavior you desire. Maybe try meeting them outside, while wearing shoes and then as you come in say, "Please be kind and remember to remove your shoes" as you take yours off.
