The pay rate is not even comparable. In Canada the education is 2 years for a Paramedic compared to a minimum 7 years for a Doctor. So, obviously a Doctor should be paid well above a Paramedic. A paramedic makes a good living in Canada making from$27/hr to $35/hr in my area. A doctor makes $100/hr in the ER at minimum, so it balances out(3x education = 3x money). However, a Paramedic leaves the job at work while the Doctor has to put in longer hours and less social life/family life. It is a great job and beats nursing any day of the week.

Paramedic salaries tend to be quite poor, and EMTs fare even worse. Reference 1 says the average medic salary is $37,404, which works out to about $18.70 an hour. However, this would include a fair number of firefighter/paramedics, which work for cities and municipalities. Medics who work for private companies doing transports or similar work would not fare as well; some medics are lucky to make $12-14 an hour. EMTs would get paid substantially less than that.

Doctors, on the other hand, fare rather better. It is difficult to put a figure on the "average" physician's salary, of course, as there are many specialities. However, a comparable position (emergency room doctor) would be about $192,000 a year with 1-2 years of experience (reference 2). This figure is comparable with that of other physician specialities listed on that page- except ambulatory, which is an average $80,000 for some reason.

So, no. Medics don't get paid well.

EMT's don't get paid very well. Like in most professions when you start out you need a lot of training.

To become a paramedic you need to spend time in school and you need to get your hours working as an EMT. Paramedics in Canada all work for the city or for a company that contracts for the city they are in. They get paid similarly to police and nurses.

In Calgary that is around $26. to start. I can't say in the states but I'm sure that full paramedics get paid pretty well there too.

Like nurses, there are usually not enough paramedics and they can get as much overtime as they like. This burns them out if they work too much but it means they can make quite a lot of money. $60 000 to $80 000.

There are also a lot of industries, oil especially that need to have trained medical staff around. It is not uncommon for them to pay $500.00 a day to have a paramedic stay at the well site for 14 days.

They still don't make what docs do.

NO! paramedics are not doctors! Their job is to keep you alive until they get you to the Docs. they make about 14$ an hour. Doctors make around 60-80 an hour, (which is really paid in a salary), and specialist can make LOTS more than that!

No way. Practically minimum wage here in England and reckon that would be the same worldwide. You don't have to train for 7 years to be a paramed!

Paramedics dont know real medicine .they just help patient to be stable........so he can get to hospital alive .....where Real doctors will save life.
They earn lot of respect but not money..........they should get a raise but not as much as what doctors are paid.
Docs and nurses are real heroes.paramedics come second.
you should join a profession based on respect not salary.........your soul will be satisfied when u see ppl respecting you even if u r poor.

No, not even close. I heard on Oprah they only make somewhat $8/hr. I was surprised! They should be paid more for what they do!
