The belt/strap as discipline at home.?

Did you receive/give it and if so, what for?

I never received it, but once heard mother give my older brother lashes for hitting another boy.

my mom would spank us with the wooden spoon if we acted up. I personally don't use spanking. Time out works well for our family.

Never got the belt/strap.

I did get spankings just with my mom and dads hand.

I believe it actually taught me a lesson, I know people are going to say that it leads to abuse or the child turns out bad but I seriously think it taught me my lesson and not to do it again.

I am 72 years old, I was raised in the thirties and forties.
My parents did use corporal punishment, but were not abusive.
I still have all of my faculties and a very sharp memory.
I know that my dad used sparing corporal punishment with me, but I cannot put my finger on one incidence.
My mom on the other hand though I know that she loved me with all of her heart gave me one whipping with a clothes line. I broke a clock in her room, she knew it, and I boldly lied to her, she gave me a couple of whacks, I decided to show her that it did not hurt.
As she had never actually hurt me up to that point in my life,(preteen), I guess she wanted to prove that she could.
I know at this age the difference in lying and telling the truth.
I appreciate my mom for the one whupping I remember in life.
I have been in two branches of the military, veteran of foriegn wars, and I have attended two universities.
I will appreciate the type of parents I had.
I have used corporal punishment extremely sparingly with my own children, I just let them know that it exists and I know how to use it. My children are spoiled on purpose and realize that I would never abuse them, but I seek mutual respect from everybody in the world, whether I get it or not.

Would you consider it discipline if a 300 lb man used a belt on you ? Yes - I did spank --but only w/ my hand on the bottom

I got the belt, hand, broom, hair brush, shirt, towel...anything that was in her hand at the time.

I use corporal punishment sparingly because I think it does need to be done in some instances and depending on the child.

I NEVER GOT IT, BUT MY BROTHERS DID WHEN THEY NEEDED IT. THAT WAS NOT TOO OFTEN. I BELIEVE IN DISCIPLINE. IF A CHILD NEEDS A GOOD SLAP ON THE BUTT, THAT IS WHAT THEY SHOULD GET. I CANNOT STAND THOSE PEOPLE THAT THINK IF YOU HIT YOUR CHILD ON THE BUTT WHEN THEY ARE TOTALLY ACTING UP YOU ARE ABUSING THEM. THAT IS BULL!

if spankings worked then you would only have to give (and or get) but one...........now ask your self .....how many spanking has my child had?
