i am neither nationality, but enjoy english humour more, though i sometimes don't get it when it is commenting on someone ,that obviously an english audience will know, but not necessarily anyone else E.g a joke including a bb contestant .
american humour is predictable ,and you just never know what the english will come up with. I love it, that they can laugh at themselves in every day situatiions with irony and sarcasm.

american -slightly childish, not wanting to offend anyone.
english -uses sarcasm, irony etc,and tends to make fuller use of the english language.
I would say that americans take every word purely at it's face value, whereas the english also use tone of voice and facial expression to imbue each word with many different possible meanings. Americans tend to have much smaller vocabularies ( they only use a small percentage of the whole language) and therefore do not have the depth to their english that "english" english speakers do. Their humour is more playful and innocent somehow. And less inclined to be hurtful.
Actually I like both senses of humour and we shouldn't really generalise!!

American humour is very obvious. British (and Australian) humour is much more subtle. A lot of British humour is based on irony and on quirks of language. There are some American comedians who can do it, but most can't.

The English (I use the word very loosely) are self-effacing and find humour in their own oddities, most Americans don't really get that. I don't say that as a criticism of either it's just the way I think it is.

I would say our senses of humour are on a par today, just look at the governments in both countries for a start off.

The english has a witty sense of humour. One need to really hear and understand. Americans, they are more upfront and straightforward

american humour seems to be more slapstick where as british is more sarcastic and sometimes on the dark side. I prefer british humour because you have to think more about it, its like mind humour

The British have one, the Americans don't. Fundamental difference I'd say.
