It's part of the dog's "cooling mechanism" as it were. It's the same reason why we sweat.. to keep ourselves cool

It is thicker skinned and may not have as many blood vessels as the paws.
Also, like our toes get cold, nose and tails are further from the heart and can seem cool to the touch.
It may just be the mucus that keeps dogs nose moist is generally not warm.

Actually, not all dogs have wet noses... And you can't determine its health by whether it's nose is cold or not. Dog's have sweat glands in their nose. When they "sweat" the nose feels cold because moisture on the nose evaporates... The same way you feel cool when your skin is wet...

Dogs have sweat glands in their noses. Cold nose means the dog is healthy, hot nose means it has a fever.

it is normal all dogs do it is just a way of showing that they are healthy if your dogs nose is warm or dry after it just woke up dont worry beacause when they sleep they can't lick they're noses ( which means they're healthy ) so it's no problem if it is dry and warm after they woke up.

Danm......Wish I knew....but it has to do w/thermoregulation of internal cooling processes.Dogs don't really sweat,their tounge's the radiator,mechanically speaking.Thermoregulation might cause a cold nose.

Because dogs keep it wet by licking it frequently. When moisture evaporates, it causes cooling.

because it is usually moist, but not always.
If a dog is sleeping in a drafty area then its nose will often appear dry.
