Most babies look bow-legged. It's totally normal. And next year, or the year after, he'll probably look knock-kneed. And that's normal, too. The American Academy of Pediatrics says that, in most cases, you should just wait it out. Unless your child is experiencing pain or milestone delays because of it, it's nothing to worry about. It won't be permanent.

Trying to "correct" it, with orthotics or braces or whatever, can actually cause damage, while waiting and seeing won't.

Just let it be.

If you're really concerned, bring it up with your pediatrician at your son's 15-month appointment. But if it's really a problem, your pediatrician will pick it up without you having to say anything.

Most babies are bow-legged and they outgrow it sometime between 2-6 when they get kneecaps and their muscles help the bone support their weight. My son is knock-kneed and his doc says to keep an eye on his spine and his skill development and check in about it every year during his check-ups (he's three now). Your baby has only been walking for a little while, talk with your doctor during his next appointment but I wouldn't stress or try to make his walk differently until he gets older.

All babies under two have the bow legged look because they do not develop knee caps until then, after that their legs straighten out. However if it seems to be an extreme case you should consult your babies doc and he can prescribe special shoes for just that reason.

I have been told they out grow it later. The earlier they walk or if a parent has it first, they l;ittle one is more likely to get it. The norm is they out grow it before age 3yrs. hang in there and good luck. If it bothers you that bad though, you should talk to a pediatrician.

when he is old enough take him to ballet classes... you may be hesitant because he is a boy but trust me it will work... my dance instructor was born bow legged and she had to take ballet at the age of 2 so she could fix it... you can just put him in until he is better if you would like

Jonnae L had a good answer. My daughter had that problem and we used braces and that took care of it. That was 30 years ago.

His pediatrician may require that he wear braces. However, he may also tell you that they may straighten out on their own.

See his doctor. :)
