The Air Force DOES accept prior service, I work with some of them (I'm not air force). But you can't switch services while still on contract. You'd have to set it up while you're still in the Marines, but the Marines aren't going to release you untill your contract is up. Here's the army program that accepts other services' personnel. The air force must have a similar prrogram.

Speaking of which, why join the Air Farce? Join the Army!!!

RE:
How do you switch military branches while still in active duty?
I'm currently serving my first term in the USMC and want to switch to the Air Force, I understand that I am serving a contract with the Department of Defense and that you can do that.

You can usually switch when ever your term is up. The only problem you have right now is trying to get into the AF. They are going through a force shaping and are cutting thousands of people so they arent taking prior service. Honestly they are barely recruiting anyone right now. People that get into the AF are still waiting like a year to ship out.
If you wanted to go into the Army they do have to Blue to Green program that allows members from other branches to switch to the Army. I actually went through the program so if you have any questions I can help you out.

you can't. you must complete your term of service with the Marines first. At the present time, the AF is not accepting Prior service personnel unless you hold a critical skill that they are in desperate need of.
You may be thinking of Blue To Green, but that's basically for AF and Navy people to transfer to Army or Marines with no break in servoice..but again, it doesn't work both ways and you do have to complete you initial contract first.

After the Vietnam war the Army cut helicopter pilots as they had too many, one that I met joined the Marines as a helicopter pilot only to be recalled to the Army. He technically was a Major in the Army and a Captain in the Marines.
I don't know what happened after that?

it is possible but not until your current enlistment contract is complete. There is no guarantee that you can. The rules change on this all of the time based on recruitment goals and the needs of the service branches.

It would be hard to switch from the USMC to the USAF. The Air Force is downsizing, and is encouraging airmen to go Blue to Green (switch to the army). I would talk to your commander, but the Marines have to be willing to let you go and the AF willing to take you.
