There are some local felines that enjoy resting on my car and invariably end up tearing holes in the top. I have a few ideas on how to prevent this occurance in the future; however, I would rather not resort to such extreme measures unless absolutely necessary.

Is there anyone who has an idea on how to keep these cats away, so I don't have to use my less imaginitive solutions?

Hi there...Here is an effective solution if you do this consistently for one month as cats are inquisitive creatures and return to investigate areas that once used to be fine. Secure a tarp over the top (make sure it can't blow away in the wind or shift when the cats jump up) and stick multiple strips of double-sided sticky tape all over the top. This will disuade them as they hate being stuck like this. Remember to consistently do this as they will return to try again and again. If a month isn't long enough, try a little while longer. It's humane and more effective than the pet deterrent sprays, cayenne pepper which can blow away. The water sprinkler idea another poster suggested is nice too, but only if you don't mind your car getting wet.

Thats a hard one. I sure understand how upsetting this must be for you. I really can't think of anything that would keep them off. Most of the sprays that are supposed to keep cats off things don't work. Are these cats feral cats? or pets that allowed to roam? If they are pets and you know who the owners are. I would have a talk with them.
The only two things I can think of would be to purchase one those motion activated sprinklers which would spray when the cats get near your car. There not awfully expensive. Readabout those here

Or buy a large tarp they aren't expensive and lay that over your roof..
