Just remodeled a powder room and never thought about the backsplash for the wall right behind the 20"wide pedestal sink--and the contractor apparently didn't either! The bathroom has no tile and is pretty sleek--purple floor tile, grey walls, white pedestal sink, all brushed chrome/stainless fixtures and accessories. With a 5 year old, we need a backsplash of some sort. Can't believe we all neglected to think of this! Can you help? I can get the contractor to do the installation; I'm just not sure what kind? Thank you!

Maybe if you use a glass tile mosaic with fun colors, it'll add a little extra sparkle to the room. Since you're bold enough to use purple in a bathroom as well as chrome and still keep it simple with grey and white you could use a little extra color and sparkle. Stick to bright jewel tones that keep in tune with the purple you have and keep it in proportion to the rest of the bathroom's style. You won't want anything too big to overshadow a pedestal sink. Maybe a small and delicate pattern that'll will draw attention around the room.
There's a website with the kind of tile I think would be great with the colors in your bathroom:

Click on products on the left hand side and scroll down to Jewels. In there is the collection of colors I think will look great in your bathroom. Also in the Showroom section on the left hand side there are some beautiful examples of how those tiles are used.

Granite really is all the rage. Don't go with marble, because it is too porous. Depending on where you are, granite can be installed for a decent price, plus it's elegant, will last forever, and increases resale value like crazy.

For a 5 year old...do the whole wall....this will save you over time
the wear and tear of regular usage of a child's bathroom...Two things...either tile the whole thing...or do a mural and plexiglass over it!
