a lot of people say this bullshit about pitbulls being bred for fightin, i hate that. pitbulls believe it or not are one of the most loyal and loving dog breeds, they are so loyal that if they have to fight to make their owners happy they will. Its not because thats wat they were bred for its because thats wat they were train for. If u raise a pitbull without trainin them to fight and love them like any other dog 98.9% will not b violent in anyway. So blame the damn owners not the breed

The breed is "American Pit Bull Terrier". The were originally bred as fighting dogs, and some still retain that predisposition to fight in them.
Sadly, the media has so over-hyped Pit Bull attacks (as they've done with sharks and other animals) that there is now hysteria around the breed. Some cities are banning the breed, some insurance companies won't insure your home if you have a Pit Bull, etc.
But overall, you're right. It's not the dogs... it's the stupid humans who bred fighting dogs, stupid humans in the media who hype the breed, and stupid people in the general public who buy into the hysteria.
Sadly, there isn't anything we can do to weed out the stupid people... so everything is taken out on the dogs.

I have a pit and she is the sweetest thing. My 2-1/2 year old daughter pulls her tail and ears and she doesn't do a thing. The only problem is that she can be very aggressive with other dogs. She doesn't bite but she does a lot of talking and the other dogs have always backed down. I hate to see when she meets a dog that will stand up to her.

Some dogs are just more prone to "snap" - doesn't matter if their owners were great or not. I know a couple people who had Rottweilers and when the Rotts got older they did end up biting/snapping at their owners, as well as kids. These dogs had to be put down. Some dogs are just more prone to bad behavior because of their breed.

Well I'm not sure that I completely agree with the rhetoric, but it does seem to reflect the consensus of the people that have taken a serious look at the issue. The Centers for Disease Control did a study a few years back - makes for interesting reading.

Yes Pitbuls are nice dogs depending on what you use them for . People misunderstand them because they have a jaw lock and can kill most dogs but they only attack when scared or a owner tells them

Pitbulls aren't even really a breed thats just what they are
called when they are placed in a pit and forced to fight. Any breed
of dog can be considered a pitbull.

OK, You are getting tired of people running down pit bulls. I am getting tired of people telling me that they are so wonderful and that if there are any problems that it is owner.
My own pit bull was absolutely the 'sweetest dog in the world', until he attacked and nearly killed my 3 year old daughter. (unprovoked)
My friend and neighbor's pit bull attacked her and mauled her leg, just because she told him "No, go lay down" when he was begging at the table.
Another friend's pit bull attacked him while he was feeding him.
I work at a boarding/day care kennel. We have only 3 pit bull clients. None of them can be allowed to play with the other dogs, as they are always looking for a fight. These dogs are owned by the outstanding citizens of our town, who care enough to put them in day care while they work.
ALL of these were responsible owners, with well trained "sweet" pit bulls.
My friends run a pit bull rescue and show UKC pit bull terriers. and poodles. They came home from a trip to the grocer's to find 3 poodles dead, and 1 wounded. The pit bulls were all bloody and happy.
Yes, many pit bulls are and stay wonderful pets. But many of them do not... I will never trust another.
Just look at the asker's questions for a couple of days. So many are about a dog aggressive pit bull, and how to make them not kill the other dogs, or tear the fence down trying to get at people and dogs, etc.

That's absolutely correct.Pit bulls are loving, protective, playfull, and durable.people tend to inbreed them for the heritage, which is stupid.Give a young pitbull the love and attention it needs and there's no difference among dog types,in general.
