Thank everyone who has given me advice... I am just kinda nervous about the introduction part b/c we went through a rough period with the cats we used to have- im going to tell you the story sorry lol- we got a kitten from one of my friends who has several animals that they find and take in to care for, and once she got older we got another kitten from then, the kitten started to go downhill once we brought her home, she stopped walking and eating and everything, and so we took her back so she could have her neighbor(a veteranarian (sp)) check her over, and she died.... well they told us that our cat that we had previously gotten from them had gotten to rough with her and "slapped" so to speak her side which broke one of her ribs, which went through her lung...slowly killing her : ( and they said we could never get another one from them-- we got rid of our cat b/c after that incident she became very rambunctuous and couldnt be calmed down no matter what we would do, she would climb up

casings around doors and go beside the litterbox, get on counters, run outdoors. you see we felt bad for them not being allowed outside because the neighbors have labs, german shepard mix's, austrailian shepards, and chows, that would tear them up in a heartbeat and we didnt want to risk it, but we didnt immediatly get rid of her, we got another kitten from the paper, and that made matters worse. They both became troublesome and got onto counters, went beside the litterbox, on the carpet anywhere except where they were needed to go, so we ended up giving them to my dads friend who has a farm where they could run free.... Well, after we got rid of them the people we got the cat that they thought killed the kitten and the kitten that got killed from called us and told us it was a disease that was passed down from the mother cat and wasnt our cats fault afterall, so we tried to get them back (we were getting a chihuahua and with it being so little we didnt want to risk it being killed

because we initially thought the cat had done it. Well, we were trying to get the kittens back so we could give them a little bit more time but the guy we gave them to said his in-laws came down and took several cats including the two we gave him to thier farm out of state. So, we just went ahead and got the chihuahua that we had already adopted, and brought him home. Now, we want another cat and are getting one tomorrow, but not sure how things will be seeing as in we were blamed for our cat killing another one of our cats which we later found out wasnt really our cats fault but hereditary. We are worried this house isnt quite ready for another animal and worried that maybe the kitten will smell the previous cats urine in the carpet (we have shampoo'd our carpet and done all that and WE cant smell it but there senses are sharper and more keen or so we were told. Spencer (our chi) hasnt done anything, so that kinda relieves a little bit of that worry. SOOO yeah, that is probably

The chihuahua is a high strung, nervous breed by nature. Fortunately you are deciding to get a cat while he is still young enough to be trained. Do not get a helpless small kitten that still needs to be bottle fed or anything. You need to first let the kitten become adjusted to the new house. After it is adjusted then slowly start introducing the animals to each other. Make sure that they are supervised very closely until you see if they are going to be alright together. You may want to take your puppy to where ever your getting the kitten from so they can see if they will be compatible. You can usually tell if two animals are going to like each other from the beginning. If the dog starts growling and snapping it probably won't be a good idea. If the kitten acts in an aggressive way then I wouldn't tempt fate. First meeting jitters are OK but if they try to attack each other that's a whole new story. My idea for you is in fact; if you take the puppy to your local animal shelter and tell them that you want a kitten but your not sure if the puppy will get along with kitten/cats, they will let you take the puppy into the cat room and see how he reacts. That is what we do at our shelter. Good Luck and thank you for being concerned about your pets. I wish that everyone was concerned about their pets.

We have a 7 month old toy poddle and just got a kitten one week ago.. They adjust really quickly. At first I was scared and didnt leave them alone together.
Your dog will be very curious about the cat and a little bit jealous.. They're both young and will be good friends in no time.
Now our kitten goes and curls up with the dog to sleep.
Just try to have one room for the kittens home base at first... ours was our daughters bedroom.. that way if they start driving you crazy you can give them a break from each other.

Let the person you are getting the kitten from, know, just in case, it doesn't work. But the young Dog, should be able to adjust in about 2 weeks. Its a new adjustment, so keep giving the Dog, your attention, so it still feelsits still loved the same, as before your new arrival came in. I'm sure then, all will go well, Animals are pretty adaptable.

Introduce the animals gradually to one another and encourage them to be friends. Don't leave them alone together without a human to supervise, at least not for the first week or two. Give them plenty of time to get used to one another. When you have a cat and a dog that are both indoor animals, be sure you get a litter box for the cat that the dog can't get into. Some dogs enjoy playing with what's in the litter box and you'll be the one who gets to clean it up. (EEeeeewwwwww!)

the best thing to do is make sure you train the dog to not play or annoy the cat most cats or in your case a kitten will then react in it's natural ways of fighting . BUT if a dog is trained you should have a peaceful house

Some animals can be instant friends. It all depends on their personality.
I would start by introducing them in a playful way, like "Look, look!See what I have?"& then pet & love the kitten & talk sweetly to it.Then pet the dog & give it a treat & sweet words.Do this daily, two or three times a day.Be watchful tho!If the dog is jealous,it could hurt or kill the kitten.
Chihuahua's are little, but can be fierce!

They will either accept each other or they won't. In either case they can choose to be best friends or merely co-exist in the same house.

Until they settle in, I would make sure I was around in case you have to referee any bouts.

It is going to be ok if you just leave them alone as the dog might be a little none-saring.
