Depends if you are a man or woman, older or younger. If you are a woman thank them politely twice. If you are both men you should hold the second set of doors (you don't want to be outdone) if the first holder is a woman and you are a man there is no hope for you (men should never let a woman hold a door for them! It is rude! And yes I am from the south). If it is an elder of either sex, the first holder, holds both sets of doors and if they don't get a thank you they suck it up.

What I do is go thru the door and IF there is a second door, I hold it open for them.......

We did that in a really nice place for an elderly couple...when we went to pay the check at the register, the cashier told me that the bill had been paid by an elderly man and his wife......I never did see them again....but that was the best meal we ever ate....

I really liked your very 'creative' question. The scenario CAN be awkward though. I always thank the person for also holding the second set of doors, usually with a slight laugh. It always makes my day though. It's good to know people can still be polite.

I always thank them again. Why not? How hard is it to say thank you two times in a row. Not very! (-: Let's all spread a little politeness and civility in our world.

As they have held the door open for me & I have passed thru before them.....I guess I would be holding the second set of doors open for them. No?

I would still say thanks.

I usually say "thank you" for the first door and "thanks" or "thank you" for the second. Or, I return the favor and hold the second door open for the person who held the first door open for me.
