Ok, here's what happened. I live in the southern states where we're born and raised very patriotic and thats just how it is. I mean, I may not agree with everything my government leaders do and think that they are total a** holes sometimes but I LOVE my country (USA). Anyway, I was at my boyfriends house (he lives w/ his mom) and he has several generations living in his house. His mom was born and raised here, but his step-dad is a big city slicker from New York but had rather be living in some European country and thinks its completely better over there. Well, at the dinner table he was talking politics and was really putting the US down and I just couldn't help quoting Merle to him.....
"I hear people talkin' bad,
About the way we have to live here in this country,
Harpin' on the wars we fight,
An' gripin' 'bout the way things oughta be.
An' I don't mind 'em switchin' sides,
An' standin' up for things they believe in.
When they're runnin' down my country, man,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me."
lol, was that wrong of me? I made his grandpa crack up because he's a country boy through and through and I think he was getting annoyed at his son in law also. I even made my bf's mom laugh, and the only person who didn't was his step-dad. But I couldn't help it. Would you have quoted Merle to? I just wanted to get my point across in a funny way....do you think I did?

The Christian way is often the rude way. Being Christian does not necessarily make someone more likely to be a good person.
In any case, what you said was humorous. Sometimes humor is the best way to get a point across. I don't consider that rude.

I know how you feel I love my country too. Most of the men in my family has either died or got injuried for the United States Of America. I would just tell them like it is. That you don't mean to be rude, but you don't like the fact that they are degrading the country that you live in, the country that you are proud of. Believe me I am very patriotic. When someone is degrading my homeland I let them know what I think about them especially if they are from the states. I hope I helped in some way

Well I am a bleeding heart liberal. However MY BOYFRIEND's family is very Christian. They love Pres. Bush. They are all reblicans and they are the anti-thesis of all I believe. Although I am liberal I am also Southern and one thing we Southern people know is you do not disrespect someone in their own house. When I visit they love to talk about how much they hate liberals but I keep my my comments to a minimum. I would never in a million years have made that comment when I was I guest in someone else's house.

Well if your boyfriends stepfather is Christian no harm done. If he's not there's still probably no harm done. But why pick a fight over something that is less important than the main issue you want to get accross to him. You don't want him rejecting other things you say to him over something that is very important to you but not necessarily something that is important in and of itself. I'm not saying you should apologize, I'm commending you for being concerned with how the things you say and do could impact your witness. You are doing a good thing by asking this of yourself and others, you should continue to do that always.

There is nothing wrong with having differences of opinion with others. Consider Romans Chapter 14 People were arguing about what type of foods to eat. The author makes the point that are opinions should not become stumbling blocks to others. I don't think that your views would be a stumbling block.

read what debbie..wrote real careful and really good. SHE IS 500% CORRECT.
You know what? I don't care what anyone tells you. Atheists are the worlds worst about getting in your face and trying to get you upset. God, knows this. You simply put a loudmouth in his place and call it good. That's is why there is GRACE. Your forgiven through prayer. He is not. That is the only difference between a lost person and a Christian. Your forgiven, they aren't. there are ways to handles things in Christian love. and there is a time to put a end to it. Jesus Christ Himself put a end to several things. Don't let anyone tell you different. There is no place in that entire book. God, tells you to be walked on, over and over. Anyone says he did......I'll show you a scriptural idiot. God, Himself tells you to STAND UP for Christ. How can you stand for Christ and not even stand up for yourself?
Christians today have ZERO backbone. NONE. They want to impress people how righteous they think they are. By doing this, Christians only allowed prayer taken out of schools. The 10 commandments taken off Courtyards, The Bible incased taken off Public ground, "In God we trust", will be taken off currency. You think God, is overwhelmingly proud of these people? The same people that claim to worship Him and what He stands for is the same people that stands with they're hands in there pockets? They are affraid to speak up, because of ridicule. period. they play "neutral"
They better hope Jesus Himself doesn't play "neutral", on judgment day. God, provided to have His work done, and Christians allowed to to taken away? All the work Christians claim they do, Jesus allow it to be taken away and not mentioned, judgment day?

christian does not equal wimp.
that's not even what meek means, if you are concerned about that. you have every right to say so if you don't agree with what he's saying. he's giving his opinion, right? why shouldn't you give yours. that was a great quote, by the way.
if people are trying to put a guilt trip on you, don't let them. many a person are often offended by the stances i have to take, but if you stay strong to what you believe is right, they'll see in the end that being a christian does not equal bowing to their every whim.

I think it's kinda funny how people in the south use words like "City Slicker" and "Yankee". It's only funny because here in California you never hear people using those words.

I think it was a harmless way to interject your feelings that you don't like having the US of A put down. I don't think is was wrong at all, and I think you handled that well.
