Have a good time in Tempe Town Lake. Walk in Phoenix downtown. Enjoy the Cardinals dome. Stop by neighbouring Tempe or Scottsdale. Scottsdale have free trolley ride around downtown scottsdale. Temple has fun places to go around in Mill Ave.
First time in Phoenix metro area, definitely check out the outdoor stuff. I tried Israeli restaurant named "Sabuddy" in University Rd, Tempe, definitely A+. Best of Luck.
