Palm oil is a form of edible vegetable oil obtained from the fruit of the Oil palm tree. The oil palm is a tropical palm tree originally from West Africa. Palm kernel oil made from the seeds is used as cooking oil, to make margarine and is a component of some processed foods. Palm oil is high in olefins, a potentially valuable chemical group that can be processed into many non-food products as well. Palm oil has the largest slice of the world vegetable oil market - 28%, followed by soybean oil. 50% of world palm-oil production comes from Malaysia. World palm oil trade totals $13 Billion yearly.

It could be made of palm, cherry or apricot.
Palm-kernel oil, high in saturated fat, is extracted from the nut or kernel of palms. It's a yellowish-white color and has a pleasantly mild flavor. Palm-kernel oil is used in the manufacture of margarine and cosmetics.
Apricot kernel oil is obtained from the dried kernels of the apricot tree. It is a very healthy oil because it is high in monounsaturated fat and contains no trans-fatty acids. It can be used for high heat cooking methods. It is also popular as a body oil and is commonly used for cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
Cherry Kernel oil is used in skin care products, soap making and as salad or cooking oil.

I have heard about apricot and avocado kernel oil, and that through new methods there are studies that are trying to produce or actualy they are producing oil from the seed kernel of fruits.
