It's tall because it is a powerful tribute to one of the most celebrated Americans. At 555 feet tall, it is one of the highest all-masonry towers in the world,and 55 feet wide at the base.
It uses the standard Egyptian proportion of 10:1 height to base.

I think it is the ruins of the fabled Tower of Babel. That would be why our leaders in Washington can't undeerstand us,or we them.
