Before I was a Christian, I partied and sought pleasure even to the point of worshipping it. I never was satisfied though. Now as a Christian for the past 12 years I have more fun than ever and not only doing spiritual things. We do need to keep in mind that we can't compartmentalize our lives in such a way to be spiritual only sometimes. God's Spirit should and could permeate every aspect of our lives.
Of course we are allowed to enjoy life. However, the more we get to know God and deeper we are in our faith, the more we will be able to laugh at the the things we once thought were serious, but are only trivial. And yes, time is short and so we are supposed to "redeem the time because the days are evil" and "the night comes when noone can work any more". The idea that a Christian can't or doesn't have fun is a stupid misconception.

Of course there is.
I am a born again christian and I have major fun ALL the time,
You have to keep in mind that tho we are christians we are NOT perfect, and God knows that. That does mean that you SHOULD commit sin, it just means that you can ask God for forgiveness.
For example if there is a movie you want to see with stuff that does not seem spiritual, that doesn't mean you cant see it.
you can see the movie, and just not copy what is going on it.
This world is too impure for you to be spiritual, because you will things that are ungodly every day on TV, on the street, on the radio, but you can deal with it.
Once you start imitating it, then there becomes a problem,
i see a new movie almost every week and and i have tons of fun.
you can be a born again christian AND still have fun. More than non christians

I always find this question baffling. What are you talking about? I am happier now than I've ever been in my life, since I became born again.
Do people really think sin is so fun? I remember when I was in my 20's and sleeping around, getting drunk, partying...that wasn't fun. I was lonely, miserable and lost. Now I am an older woman, the Lord restored my virtue and purity. Life is beautiful and fresh every day. I laugh, I take delight in many things. Just not sin, because it's ugly. It would be like climbing down into the mud after being washed off with crystal clear, living water!

We are supposed to find joy in all circumstances (Philippians 4:4). We are also to live, as it were, beyond time - in the now (Matthew 6:34). So the question is, what is profitable? What is edifying? If it's both, then we are free to do it (1 Corinthians 6:12-20; 10:23-33).
Another thing: we aren't supposed to divide our life into 'spiritual' and 'unspiritual'. All of our life is supposed to be a spiritual experience, an act of worship (Romans 12:1).
We're supposed to go through life experiencing whatever comes our way, learn to make right choices, and find the spiritual meaning in it all (Romans 5:1-5; James 1:2-4).

Allowed? Allowed??? My friend Christians are commanded to enjoy life!
Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.
The picture I use on this site was taken last year when I went on a rafting trip with members of the church I attend and I'm going again in 2 weeks. We are having a singles conference coming up that will focus on how to live a victorious single life and still have fun. We have a sports ministry and there are retreats and all kinds of other get togethers for us to fellowship and have fun together. I belong to the Abundant Life Christian Fellowship based upon this verse from Scripture. http://www.alcf.net
John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Why wouldn't we be allowed to enjoy life? Jesus grants us FREEDOM, and He does not want a bunch of stick soldiers walking around like zombies speaking to people in Bible verse, what good would that do but turn a bunch of people OFF to the grace and mercy of the Lord?
I have been an Executive Assistant for many, many years. One thing people always know about me is that I am a Christian and I take my Christianity seriously. Even though I am a Christian, I am still myself. I sing, I dance at my desk, I goof off in the office. I get in the elevator and talk to people in funny voices and I tie my sweater around my neck and run down the hall as fast as I can like batman. Before I do that, I do a good job and don't rob my employer of my time, and I don't brow beat people, but I live the life that God gave to me with JOY -- and lots of it -- and it shows.
I enjoy myself emmensely. I feel to do otherwise would be a great sin before the Lord. How else will people want what you have if you are nothing but a mope?
Enjoy your life, and let people see -- not necessarily hear, but SEE -- the joy of the Lord in you, and you will soon find that others will ask you WHY you are so joyful, and HOW can they get that joyful too.
Hope this helps!

I grew up in church. My teenage church friends and I used to joke that our church motto was, "...if it feels good, don't do it." It was a joke, but it wasn't too far from the truth.
Of course you're allowed to enjoy life. There is a scripture in the Bible that reads, "...I come that you would have life, and that more abundantly." I believe Christ would have us learn to grow in ALL areas of our lives.
You wouldn't be asking this question unless the messages you've been getting are that Christians SHOULDN'T be enjoying life. Don't allow yourself to be fenced in by super-strict religion. There's a whole, enjoyable world out there. And God wants you to enjoy it every step of the way. You can enjoy life, and do things you enjoy and not undermine your walk with Christ.

Of course you are! God wants you to enjoy life. He wants you filled with joy. He wants you happy. I've been a christian for 20 years now and I have so much fun! I just enjoy myself within the boundaries of Gods word. Jesus said that loving everyone was the greatest commandment. If you love everyone with a Godly love you won't break any commandments. So go out and have fun and love your brothers and your enemies while you're doing it and you should be fine. If you goof up somewhere along the way, then repent, ask forgiveness and go on.
Of course you should have time to read the Bible and pray and go to church, you can't be out playing all the time. But, please!!!! definitely go have some fun. God gave you life and a wonderful world to live in, He gave you your personality and your sense of humor. Go out and enjoy!
A lot of people look at someone they see as "spiritual" or further along in their spiritual walk than they are and think they have to model themselves after that person, but God created you to be the person YOU are. Embrace that person and live life to the fullest! (-:
An example from my own life would be that I enjoy music and praising God. I would love to be gifted musically but I'm not. I play guitar and it's a struggle for me to be at least a mediocre guitarist. (-: But I do it anyway. I play with the other musicians in my church and I used to worry A LOT about messing up even one little thing. Our music leader told me he wanted me to play and when I made mistakes, make them with gusto! lol So I do. (-: Enjoy what you do, do what you enjoy.

I as a "reborn"/"born-again" Christian believe that we are allowed to enjoy life. However we are also expected to enjoy it RESPONSIBLY, and set somewhat of an example for others. You can still have fun and still enjoy things but don't lose sight of what God's plan and His guidelines. And just use your logic and common sense.
I hope this helps

ROFLMAO-
I wake up in the morning and after 2 hour of self flogging, to get the blood flowing (all over the place) I go and eat a moldy bit of cheese, and a fin of a 3 day old fish (to show I'm humble) then a run down the street preaching the word to my neighbor and dodging bottles and cans.
Then 2 hours of prayer.
Then down to the bar, to tell them there going to hell and if I'm lucky I get to go the dentist, Pain makes one holy.
Then after some gruel and a baptism and a little flogging, I'm out to paint the town Red.
I used to go down the the police station, and yell at the drunks that they brought in, but they will not let the word be spoken down there anymore, it has become a den of heathen!
So now I go to the movies, There are 2 I have not been thrown out of yet, and I still have a chance to save them!
Yes we have fun! and time is too short not to have fun!
