I cannot argue the truth. You are 100% correct, and I'm sick of hearing "dial 2 for Spanish". It should be, "dial 2 for deportation".

Bugs me too. Last time I called the country recorders office, the greeting was in English then Spanish. The Spanish greeting took longer than the English. I have no problem with having the "handicappped" Spanish speakers sent to another phone line by pushing numero dos or whatever but to have to listen to both as a greeting, is dead wrong. We speak English in the USA last time I checked (not that you can't speak other languages too). I wrote them a letter of complaint and told them so as well. Funny thing about that deal. While I was doing biz with everyone there, they all had names like Juanita, Juan, Maria etc. I guess working in the County seat is a job most Americans wouldn't want. Or maybe they all were naturalized in 86 in that Amnesty program ...and now, they need to hire them cuz they are bi lingual and the rest of us are not. Most regular Americans can't handle biz on a day to day basis cuz there are so many, non English speakers who speak Spanish owning land in the USA, they need translaters. The future is here folks ...and from where I sit ...it sucks! I imagine it's only going to get worse. When these folks who can't or won't speak English start voting ...you'll see what I mean.

Oh hell yes! Why in the world do we have to press 1 for English? This is America for Pete's sake. I am now boycotting McDonalds (not a hard thing to do) because a couple of weeks ago when I went in for some bottled water the signs in their drink area was all in spanish. All of them...not one in English. A kick in the teeth. This is America, our language is English. I am so ******* sick of all this. I have no problem with anyone that comes to America legally but please, learn the language. BTW don dons, blind people can't "learn" to read printed English. Most immigrants are both seeing and hearing...they can learn English, they just choose not to.

I agree. My last name sounds Spanish. I get at least one call a week from someone who assumes I speak Spanish. When I answer the phone by saying 'Hello' in English, they should not continue in Spanish. Of course it is usually a recording on the other end. That's a rant for another forum.
Yes & No: I wouldn't mind dial 2 for Spanish if i didn't have to dial 1 for English. It should be assumed.

Well Spanish is America's second language, so they have to put it. I think that if you come to America you should know some English, but even those who do may understand Spanish better so they need it. Just ignore the Spanish parts. They should be there.

Because that is just how it works now. In Canada everything is english and french. But in some places they are starting to use more languages. Like East indian and oriental.
When you apply for your drivers license you can get your instruction manual in those 4 languages.
Its just a sign of the times. We are becoming so diverse and multicultural that we must adapt and get used to these changes.
I agree that english is the main language and that it should be learned quite well but we have to be respectful of others.
I do think it is rude though when you walk into a room or something and ppl stop speaking english and start talking in a different tounge.

My Grandparents immigrated to America from Poland, they had to earn to speak english before they could become citizens. I think because of the amount of Hispanics, Spanish is a second language.

Actually, English is NOT your official language. America DOES NOT HAVE AN OFFICIAL LANGUAGE.
English is your "default" language, meaning that since the majority of your population is English-speaking, that's the first language used.

People get so irritated with you if you don't speak spanish. Dirty mexicans think that everyone is America should speak their language. It is so stupid.
'Um Yea Hi' is an iddiot. Spanish is not the 'official second language' of the US. Check your facts before typing.
