I do not think it will be a good idea to send either British or American troops to Lebanon. With British and American troops already in Iraq and throughout the region, it may be too inflammatory for Arab governments to have them in yet another country. Additionally, should Hezbollah kill an American or Brit, I am afraid all hell will break loose as an inevitable retribution arrives. Better to select troops that neither Israel or Hezbollah are likely to attack. Due to traditional ties in the region French troops pass this test, and troops from neutral Muslim Turkey as well.
My concern is including troops from countries like Indonesia or Pakistan or other Muslim countries that still do not officially recognize Israel's right to exist. This is unacceptable.

Probably. We are a permanent member of the Security Council and usually end up deploying to the world's trouble spots.
The real question is can we manage it? UK forces are deployed worldwide during a period of tension unseen since 1990. At the same time they have been ravaged by defence cuts, haven't got the right equipment (and when they do, it is late, over-budget and generally indadequate) and suffer from huge morale problems with one regiment in particular having deployed to Iraq 3 times in 3 years. Not only that the services are mired in privatisation and constant re-organisation that leaves the average sailor, soldier or airmen not knowing whether he is coming or going. That said, they somehow seem to muddle through by using their resourcefulness and initiative. But the country can't rely on this forever. I'd like to think that the Labour Govt will be held to account for this one day when the **** really hits the fan. But we all know they won't. The cavalier risk they take with peoples' lives will never have the effect on the politicians that it ultimately has on those who serve and their families.

If no other country commits soldiers to the UN peace keeping force, then who is the World going to turn to. Yes it's the despised British and American soldier, who seem to be the back bone of all peace keeping or stabilisation forces around the world.
Whether it is a good thing or a bad thing, it depends what you want, peace or anarchy. if its peace, then that's a pipe dream and will never happen. Anarchy will happen, as i can't see the gorillas in Lebanon not wasting a chance to take a cheap shot at any US and UK soldiers wearing the light blue of UN forces.

Let's keep out of Lebanon!
We suffered losses there after WW2.
Israel treats the native people of the area like dogs and regard an Israeli life as being worth 150 Lebonese lives.
We shouldn't get draw into this endless squabbling.
Israel uses history to justify its right to exist and they like to re-write history as it suits them.
Let us not become part of this drama!

As a US Marine that retired with 30 years, I don't want to see anyone go to war! But unfortunately as long as there are countries that allow terrorist to thrive in there country, The US and British troops will have to fight them. God knows we are the two strongest countries in the world and if we don't do it who will? We all know the UN is worthless.

I think it best for British and U.S. forces to remain in position where they are and let other countries play policeman for awhile. In case things do escalate in Lebanon we are more strategically placed now if things become more "regionalized", if you follow me.
