For better than a year, I've been trying to get a deal on some airfare from the Washington, DC area to Christchurch. I want to go in Feb/Mar and the rate seems to fluctuate between $1,600 and $1,700. And, I can never find any frequent flier opportunities. Anyone had any better luck than this?

If your frequent flier miles are on Continental, one partner airline is Qantas. I flew from Dc to Cairns(Great Barrrier Reef) last Nov-Dec for $85 RT, which was airport taxes.I'm sure I could have flown to Sydney instead. From there you can get a cheap flight to Christchurch.

Word of caution, this kind of flight isn't direct. I flew from Baltimore to Houston, to Hawaii, to Guam and finally to Cairns...it was a LOOOONG flight. Actually I stopped in Guam for 1 1/2 days to decompress...hotels there are cheap and on the water.
You'll love Christchurch...it's beautiful and the people are so friendly. I stayed at a wonderful hostel

Good luck

to boot to JetStar Asia and all of the different airlines already pronounced... try Cebu Pacific and Dragon airlines (no longer so particular however if dragon air has flights out of singapore; they are affiliated with Cathay Pacific) those airlines in many situations supply rather airborne dirt and airborne dirt and dust-low fee fares (in case you may seize em)

Try:

www.zuji.co.nz or

www.statravel.co.nz

I don't know about flights from overseas to NZ but worth a try, they have some quite cheap flights sometimes.
