I had that problem, too. I downloaded free from the Internet, Ad-Aware and Spybot. I'm not EVEN going to tell you all the little nasties I got rid of by using these two tools. I did a defrag. Then deleted the files I wasn't going to use any more. Yahoo gets a lot of traffic at certain parts of the day and slows down, even on High speed DSL. So, combined with all the spyware, tracking cookies and fragmented files you computer can slow down to the point where it can freeze up on you.
That's the easy stuff. If it still continues to freeze up, consider Firefox. Good luck.

I have had stuff freeze or go slow on me. Is it only the yahoo screen that freezes? Use ctrl+alt+del to see how many programs and processes you are running. Windows XP usually around 60 processes. Windows 98, hardly any, but not separated. Then, if using the "stop" button on the toolbar (red x or whatever), doesn't work, then bring up the task manager and be careful. If you remove the wrong thing, then it could restart you. It may also be that something is using the CPU. At the bottom of the task manager is a number of processes, cpu% and memory. Check to see what is using the cpu. Watch to see which yahoo program or process you end. Messenger will say messenger. The browser may only say what site you are on. Not internet explorer. It takes practice to see. Also as the others say, Firefox is way way faster, IE is slower anyway, check for adware. Use ewido anti-malware 3.5. Search for malware. Hope this helps.

something is wrong on your computer, not on yahoo's side.
You might want to restart your machine and try again.
Move to a better browser - Firefox and avoid all IE errors
