answer: In most history classes...the material learned is mostly about how america came to be. Which means that white american history is learned 11 months out of the year since they so called " found this great country we live in". African americans played a huge part in helping along the way...but since we didnt come into the picture a few hundred years after the country was founded...we are most like forgotten about in the history books. Basically, Black History Month was established so that there would be at least one part out of the year that black were commended for the part we played in this country.

AND TO THAT AUTUMN CHICK! It's not about racism...its about us African American's constantly having to fight for and defend the achievements of our ancestors and black civil rights leaders because people like you want to write us from the history books, as if we never played a part in making this country what it is today. So its not a why do blacks say its racism and we can't thing...Besides...how in the hell could a white person say a minority is racist? or in case u forgot, Caucasian is the majority! Think before type next time!

There is a black history month because of what the white peoples ancestors put the black peoples ancestors through. All people are equal or at least should be.

Besides think about it the white people here in America has treated every other nationality like dirt on the bottom of their shoes for a very long long time. They discriminated against the irish, the cubans, mexicans, italians, the indians and many more.

Now my question is what is a white person? Honestly I am white at least my skin is but I have indian, irish, and italian in me.

Let's think about this. How many times do you learn about American history? LIke every month. And black history, about 1 month out 12. Black Americans have overcame a lot of things in the past, present and will in the future. White people have just about everything and blacks can't have one month to celebrate? How selfish are you?
