My younger brother stepped on my laptop. Now it has 5 giant cracks on the screen and dead pixels. I told him it was there. I have warranty so it could be fixed. He still denises he stepped on it. He was the only other person in the room. I asked him what he was doing at the time. He accidently told on himself in the story, so he quickly changed it. I told him it is okay I warranty, but he still denises it. My dad knows he broke the screen and did nothing about it at all. Should I give my brother the silent treatment until he tells the truth and apologize?

(Sorry for spelling errors, it is hard to see over the dead pixels.)

no..beat his azz like an older brother should. If that was someone else's laptop he would get sued or slapped/beat up. By giving your brother the silent treatment it is preparing him for a world that does not exist. do something wrong then people will give you the silent treatment. That is some BS. Smack the sh1t out of him for lying to you. Its better that you teach him this now then a stranger later in life.

First of all, if it's valuable to you, what's it doing on the floor? How much care can you be taking if that's where you left it? Second, the silent treatment may give him the idea that this is important to you, but don't expect him to apologize if it's not his nature. He may never do that and you might end up not talking to him forever. As for your dad, my parents did that kind of thing, too. I was amazed once when I was little and my grandmother was babysitting and my brother broke my prized blackboard. My grandmother actually made him stand in the corner for what I thought was a decent amount of time. I felt so respected and important that she would do that! As a parent now, though, I can understand be so weary that you just can't deal with it. Anyway, if it's possible to talk to your dad (and I know that it isn't always), tell your dad how it makes you feel when he doesn't do anything about stuff like this without expecting your dad to punish your brother over this. Just get him to understand.

If you are his big brother, he won't like it that you are not talking to him. Maybe it was an accident, but you are right, he needs to own up to the truth. If he wants to talk to you, make sure you are listening, if it isn't something Life Threatening, maybe try not answering, or simply ask; Are you ready to tell me the truth now?
If he tells the truth, don't go back over the fact that he lied. Simply tell him, that he expects the truth from you, and you expect, that he tells you the truth also.

No, but I would not be overly friendly. Now is the time to take the high road in this. Have a heart to heart talk about how disappointed that you are in him that he would damage your computer and not 'fess up becasue the real issue is not being accountable for damaging someone property and someday, he may get into big trouble for not being responsible. Don't fight though......being quiet and aloof speaks more. And, by the way, shame on your father.

it depends on how old you two are and if you have a good relationship. I know when my husband gives me the silent treatment (it's usually for something stupid) it really really works. But there's only us two in the house.

Tell your little bro that you're not going to talk to him or even look at him until he says sorry. It'll be a good lesson for him to learn about taking responsibility for his actions.

maybe it actully depends on him.ya that sounds weird but he probly feels bad but will get over it quick.or he wont.well give him the silent trement if you want to be mean. but hey if its that big of a deal to you should never talk to him ever agin. but i dout its worth your bro's love and trust he did not mean to .he looks up to you even tho he dont show it he is the one you will want to spend time with and talk to in 5 or maybe 10 years if your that shallow.your not a bad person just think in your head switch places you are him hes you and you may get your answer. good luck.

oh grow up! it was your younger brother and obviously an accident. Why do you think he lied about it? He didn't want to upset you and didn't want you mad at him.

Forgive him and cut the crap!

you have a warranty moron!!!

quit fishing for sympathy!!!

You haven't said in your explanation how young your brother is. If he is just a little guy, he is probably feeling really bad already. No need to make it worse, he will have to deal with it eventually. If he is older, than don't turn this into a potential war.

And above all... DON'T PANIC.

Yes... don't beat him or anything, but don't let him get away with it either. Although, after a day or two, its gonna get old so there isn't a hell of alot you can do anyway.
Use the warranty!
