Go to this website. They give you a list of all the dog breeds, and specific information about each one, like how much they shed. Make sure you find a dog that will fit your lifestyle, if you aren't really into exercising, don't get a border collie or something hyper like that. Good Luck!!

We have a miniature pincher and she is the perfect apartment dog. She has a very, very short coat and doesn't shed (if she does, we don't notice) and she also doesn't require much in the area of grooming, except a routine bathing. She weighs about 12 pounds. She is good with children and very intelligent. Min pins are said to be good guard dogs. Shiba Inus are also short haired, medium sized dogs. They are easy to train and smart, also. I wouldn't recommend a lab, usually, because they are high energy and do shed pretty badly when excited or during summertime. Beagles are also good with shedding, and they are about 20 pounds. Corgies are sweet natured and have medium length hair, weigh about 20 pounds. I love Boston Terriers! They are so cute and don't shed hardly at all! Most people get labs because they are sweet and good natured, but they require serious training. I'd also strongly recommend going to your local animal shelter or humane society and seeing what they have there. Many of the dogs are mutts, but I couldn't be happier with my mixed breed! Plus, many of the dogs are older and already house-broken and know some basic commands. There are always plenty of dogs that need homes! You shouldn't restrict your search to purebreds. I also want to strongly encourage that you think of all the aspects of dog ownership (I'm sure you already have :) before investing in one. I hope you find your perfect dog!

Beagles are a great medium sized dog. Some can be big so try to find one with smaller parents. Mine is about 18 lbs and a great inside dog. She loves to cuddle! And she is not a barker like most people say about beagles, its all about how you raise and train them.

I would have to say the basenji. The basenji is a medium dog not to big not to small. The basenji cannot bark, and are very smart as well as sophisticated. For local listings of great basenjis go to www.puppyfind.com

English Cocker Spaniel. Very friendly and affectionate...not as much hair as an "American Cocker...and terrific personality...eager to please...and much smaller than a golden or lab with the same great disposition.
