The first site you give is for income equality. That basically means that everyone has the same income. It doesn't mean it's a good income.
The second site you give does list twenty poorer countries. It doesn't mean Mexico makes it to the rich side because they're not on it.
You might want to look at the human development index where Mexico is 53 (just below Cuba). The US is 17 by way of comparison.

Well, it's poor because of political corruption. México is a rich country; it's just that all the politicians or anyone with any kind of power hoarde all the munny.
Just look at the roads in México. The city is given--let's say the equivalent of $10 milllion--to fix the roads. The city officials go to the contractors and say, what's the least you could do it for? They give the guy $1 million and pocket the rest. The city officials construct their summer homes and the roads get a quick once-over of asphalt--after the contractors take their bite out of the remaining million, that is. And that's why there are potholes everywhere on the roads--it's a microcosm of the corrupt Mexican political system. No one cares about the people on the bottom rungs.

If you look at the map, it also shows that Greenland and Japan are equal, and that the US, China and Mongolia are equal. There seem to be some serious problems with the methodology of the chart.
Mexico's people are poor, except for a tiny minority. Mexico has valuable natural resources, especially in the south, but corruption has stagnated the enconomy and made life for the majority so miserable that they'd rather risk their lives and leave their country to pick crops here than stay at home.

Stats and charts will never show you what life is like somewhere. Mexico is made up of super-rich and ultra-poor, and precious little in between. The poor people in the tourist areas have been conditioned to think that if you tip them more than what they're worth, you are a fool because of it. They actually don't believe they are worth making more than a few dollars a day, while the rich get all the money from their work.

Because they are trying to understand why hundreds of thousands of Mexican citizens risk their lives to cross the American border just to get a job in a 'richer' country.
If Mexico is not poor, then why do they do it?

That is exactly why we think they should pay for their own poor people's education and health care instead of giving them counseling on how to sneak in here where we would have to pay for it.
Their upper and middle class don't want to pay for universal education. Says something about them, I think.

Exactly right .. so there falls the argument about "poor people here to make a better life" ... what they always forget to add is "at somebody else's expense" ......
