for the uninitiated- it's a soft boiled egg, slices of toast cut length ways into strips standing to attention!( and buttered of course), u hack the top of the egg off and dip the toasted soldier in the yolk, bliss

This is one of the most tasty nutritious meals you can have, and oh the sheer heaven dipping the buttery soldiers in to a soft boiled egg. Yummy yummy - youve made me hungry!! Even when I am ill, I find eggs put me back on track

Never have done that. Boiled egg and torn up toast for dipping....and boy is that difficult. Never thought of making 'soldiers' or that someone ever even thought of that to name this.
Anyone know the history of how it got its name? Civil war times?????
