when you try to back up you have to ride the clutch a little to keep it from jumping out of gear.

And if you push in the clutch and coast backward in reverse there is this thumping grinding sound. What you have is a chipped Reverse Idler Gear. Engine and transmission will have to be removed and the transmission taken apart and that Idler gear reverse main gear and some time reverse first counter gear.

It could be a chipped gear, which would involve removal of the engine to get to the transmission in that particular car.

However, it could also be a clutch or linkage adjustment, which would be far less expensive or complicated to address.

Just about any tire shop can order them for you if they dont have them in stock. $150 is pretty rich and unless you have a 1800cc or higher engine in your super then it isnt worth it to buy better performing tires. Check some of the tire shops around you. They'll probably have to order it which make take a day or two but it will save you in the long run.
