Capers are the fruit or berries of a small bush...They are used pickled in vinegar to add a spicy flavour to certain dishes...
Excellent in a spaghetti sauce with chjopped olives...
In a butter sauce for fish fillets,
necessary in a good tartar sauce..
And wonderful with chopped egg on smoked salmon sandwiches.
There is also a "giant" caper the size of a small olive that is excellent on it's own, or in a mixed vegetable and egg salad with mayonnaise!
Also in a "Steak Tartare"

I use capers in a pasta dish that I make with cauliflower and white wine sauce.

They bring a lot of flavor to the party. They have a kind of mustard type flavor. Work really well in chicken or veal picatta

I like to put them in my tuna for sandwiches! They also are great in a garlicy sauce over fish or chicken.

They are used as a condiment -- they have a nice, spicy flavor. You can get the same thing with fresh nasturtium seeds (much cheaper!)
