I'm 105 lbs. I'm 12 years old, I'm on a swim team that swims HARD everyday. I don't have breakfast on a regular basis, I barly eat anything for lunch, but I snack a bit and eat a full dinner. There are rumors floating around in my school saying that I'm an anoresic. But I think I need to lose at lease ten pounds. Is this normal or do I need some help?

If you are taller than 5 foot 4 inches then you're underweight. If you're shorter than 4 foot 6 inches then you're over weight.

OMG!! 5'7"!! you are 34 lbs underweight (under ideal cycling weight at least). You are a tall 12 year old, but i can belive that. If you swim hard, eat a big breakfast no doubt and eat a decent lunch. if you are swimming at race pace or close to it each day, eat a pre race breakfast each day. that would mean lots of carbs. The last thing you need to do is lose 10 lbs. That could be harmful and send your body into survival mode. Just eat some more. It will be hard filling yourself the first couple of days but your body will adjust accordingly after the first day or two. Dont care what people think, just make sure you have a close circle of freinds you can count on. thats all you need to care about at your age.

Is it normal for pre and teen age girls to believe they're overweight regardless of whether they are or not? Unfortunately, yes, it is normal. Unless you're shorter than 4 ft or taller than 6 feet, I know it's easier said than done, but try not to focus on your weight. You're active, and that's more than half the battle in maintaining a healthy weight at your age. What you really do need to be concerned with though are your eating habits, especially for an athlete. Based on what you wrote, I'd say you're eating too little, and skipping breakfast is the worst thing you can ever do. It really is the most important meal of the day. By eating a healthy breakfast, eating a healthy lunch and snacking through the day, I'm sure you will not only see an increase in your swimming performance, your school work, but you will probably tone up some too. Yep, that's right, your diet might be preventing you from adding muscle mass (which in turn raises your metabolsim) and forcing you to stuff yourself at dinner because your famished. It's better to eat 6 smaller meals a day than one large one. And by adding that muscle, you might be pretty pleased with how you will look. Do you need help? I don't think so as long as you do everything in moderation. Just try to focus on healthy and not on thin. Doing so will do more for your figure than just focusing on your weight.

I am 14 and weigh less than you, that does not mean I am underweight though. You should eat normal meals if you exercises and your situation could very quickly become a disorder if you are not careful. "I think I need to lose at lease ten pounds" that right there is your danger area, you do not need to lose any weight. If you exercise hard but do not replace what you burn with healthy foods that is a type of anorexia, so be careful. You should talk to your mother or father about this, they know you better than anyone on this site.

How tall are you, honey? I'd say if you're over 5'2 then you are a little on the thin side.

You need LOTS of carbs and protien for swimming. I swim, so I know. Pastas, whole grain bread, meats. You really need to start to eat breakfast and lunch. If you don't have time or just want a light one try a granola bar or ceral bar for breakfast.

Good luck.

I agree with everyone else. You are of normal weight and you don't need to loose any more weight.
