Here is what happened to me the other day. I have symptoms of reactive hypoglycemia a lot but my blood sugar levels never go out of the range of normal. For example, I ate a bunch of chocolate and got nauseated, sweaty, dizzy, anxious (heart was racing), short-tempered, paranoid, saw black splotches, etc. But next day I ate normal food and did not have any of this...until I ate chocolate again. Then started falling asleep at the computer, then rest of the symptoms again....but doctors say not proven w/out GTT test that shows sugar levels out of range of normal. Sugar level was 95-99 each time I checked. I feel it is something diabetic-like though. Btw, I am 5'3, 119 lbs, and I have an..um..eating issue also, which may have caused this. I hate protein, don't tell me to eat it and "fix" everything. Question is how to get a doc to believe me and document it. And what is "it"?

It doesn't just happen w/ chocolate so it isn't a food allergy. It happens w/ too many carbohydrates.

Umm, sounds like you're stuck on the "its my blood sugar" issue. Have you ever thought it could be an allergy to that lovely chocolaty substance? Just a thought.

Ok, fair enough, it might be very loosly linked to what foods you eat, but if these symptoms come on quickly and last a couple of minutes it could be something to do with neurally mediated hypotension. If, like you say, you have eating issues, your body may be having trouble coping with its blood pressure. These attacks usually are an inaccurate response from your brain to lower your blood pressure, usually if stood for a long time, sitting a long time with legs crossed. May also be Postprandial if you're finding it helps to eat fewer carbs or lighter meals or it gets worse after eating.

Just another thought, but I think this is more an issue for deep discussion with your GP if its worrying you this much.

Have some allergy tests run - although it doesn't only happen with chocolate, there may be an additive or ingredient that all the foods share in common.

It may also be hyperglycemia from the carbs/sugar. If it's reactive hyperglycemia (too much sugar - i.e., chocolate, carbs (which will you body breaks down into sugars)) then your sugars will spike only when you consume these foods - and you will have 'normal' blood sugar levels - you need to check your sugar about 20-40 minutes after eating to see if you have reactive hyperglycemia. I would just suggest to your dr that they maybe do a glucose tolerance test - that's where they make you drink this horrendous orange crap and then check your sugars at regular intervals - it will be a good indicator. Good luck!

Chocolate has caffeine in it; those reactions could be to the caffeine. You say that you get those same symptoms from carbohydrates and you hate protein and it sounds like you must not eat any protein. No wonder your system is messed up. A balanced diet and one with good carbohydrates are necessary(don't know what kind you are eating, junky ones? or whole cereals and fresh fruits?) Perhaps you are jacking up your blood sugar over and over and your body really does get stressed from doing that to it. All that jacking up can lead to diabetes.

Normal sugar range should be about 80-120. Have you been checked for allergies?

I wouldn't reccomend trying to convince your doctor of what you think is wrong rather seek a second and even a third opinion if you feel it is necessary. If they all come to the same diagnosis then you should start treatment. Also, it would help if you told us what you mean by an eating issue.

I'm not a doctor, but maybe you're just allergic to chocolate. Ask the doctor what your IGE level was in your blood stream. It's a start.

toots hate to tell you but i feel the same way when I eat sugary food and avoid proteins. It freaking sucks, but your body might need more protein to balance itself out. Do not play with your health eat the beef.
