It is a Third World country because only half of Mexico is modernized while the other half, mostly rural areas are under developed and have a culture of traditions that go back to the colonial era.
The history of Mexico has the natives with their own culture incorporated into European culture by conquest which differs from the extermination of Native Americans to make room for the Europeans. This makes it hard for Americans to understand Mexico and its people.
The terrain is very mountainous in rural areas which makes it very difficult and very costly for infrastructure to reach these communities. If you also consider how their traditions and culture also maintains them in poverty levels, their priorities are not very rational.
The political clash that initiated 20 years ago and the "all hell broke loose" that is in progress, is the aftermath of 70 years of a sole political party. This is also a factor that is creating more underdevelopment in some areas while others have state of the art modernization.
If some say Mexico is a piece of trash, then don't know why U.S.A. wants its trashy oil, or make energy agreements for their benefit, also Mexico has many foreign investments (mainly from US) getting their pockets filled to the rim, paying measly salaries
for labor, so much less that the Mexicans prefer to work in the USA. and get paid in a day what they would make in Mexico in a week.
So anyway we see it, foreign investors and domestic investors taking adavantage of this cheap labor, here and there.

mexico is a third world country. Why do you think everyone is trying to get out. all the illegals come here and send money home because mexicos economy sucks. If you are from mexico then you should already know this. i don't need to read a newsleter to tell me that our economy in the united states is good/bad. Human development in mexico is based on what the goverment wants to tell you, not what it may or may not be. Mexico has an extremly high poverty level. The united states has a much higher human development, more jobs, etc.etc. etc. Just try to only believe 35% of what you read, and more of what you have actually seen. Mexico's goverment has all the money not the mexican people. Just like cuba

If Mexico Is " pretty close to the united states "
Why Is 12 Percent Of Mexicos Citizens
Living And Working In The USA ???

Why Are 10,000 Mexicans
Sneaking Over Our Border Every DAY ???
(3 Million Annually)

What Are They Running From ???

Well, I think what most of us wonder is, because Mexico is "pretty close to the United States in human development," why do Mexico's people still flood the USA by coming in illegally? If their country is so rich and beautiful, why don't they STAY in Mexico?? I KNOW that Mexico is NOT a 3rd world country and I have never said it was. Mexico is something like the 11th or 13th richest country in the world! So, why do people come on here saying that "Mexicans come here because they are sooooooooo poor in Mexico..." etc. If, as you say, the USA is "not too far off from what Mexico is," I would say that a MAJOR cause of that is all the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS who come here and turn our country into the same cesspool they left!

Because it's Mexico. They look at pictures online that show all the poverty, but they don't see the places that are nice and not run down. The US is so use to judging things based on the way they appear. Americans refuse to realize just because every place in Mexico doesn't have nice 3 story houses it's a good place. Mexico isn't a third world country, it just doesn't pay so much attention to who has what. Everyone is pretty much equal. It's full of love and that's all that matters..

When the politicians and police stop being corrupt and actually do whats bests for their citizens, then you can actually compare Mexico to USA. Until then don't even joke about Mexico being anywhere close to as good as America, land of the FREE.

your right mexico is not a third world country and mexico is not poor they have enough resources to take care of their own people but because of corruption we are footing the bill and why should we keep promoting corruption if no one demands change guess what there will be none!!and if their own people don't have the nads to demand it for themselves we must send them back and tell them no more!!

I agree with you on this point. So why the mass exodus from there to the US? Why not stay home and make your country even better instead of coming here to steal the opportunities of citizens?
