I don't like eating vegetables. I think I can get all the fiber I need from oatmeal , and fruits such as raisins and bananas. I take vitamins too. I am quite healthy. Do I still need veggies to stay healthy and avoid colon problems?

Actually, vegetables are the BEST food group of all! Why? Because they do not steal minerals from your body...unlike meat, eggs, dairy, bread. You should read The Acid-Alkaline Diet for Optimum Health by Christopher Vasey. Vegetables keep the body's cells free from inflammation.

If you make your diet 80% alkaline food sources (green vegetables, raisins, bananas, whey, very fresh milk) and cut WAY BACK --- less than 20% acidic (meat, nuts, breads, grains, oatmeal, tomatoes, vinegar-based foods, coffee, tea, sugar) -- you will stay disease-free...cancer-free, arthritis-free, osteoporosis-free, diabetes-free, obesity free.
Fruits are great, but they are still weakly acidic foods that have to be metabolized.

Look at the Asians...they don't have osteoporosis as much as Americans. Why? They eat a diet high in vegetables.

As for V-8....
V-8 juice and tomato juice are actually very acidic because of the tomato content, so I wouldn't make V-8 my only source of vegetables, especially if I had a disease.

I make green vegetable juices all the time with my blender. When I remember to drink them regularly, my skin becomes very soft, clear, and smooth. I have much more energy because my cells are oxygenated and full of minerals.

A doctor once cured herself of cancer by consuming 10 servings of vegetables every day!! (dark green leafy veggies, red peppers, and carrots are the best!)

You just need to find a way to love vegetables...maybe try some vegetable juice recipes, or find a favorite salad dressing. : )

Good luck!!! : )

Veggies are very necessary in our diet...
If you don't like all vegetables, eat those you prefer...Some of the best are not the ones most liked...like broccoli and cauliflower or cabbage. But the vitamin and fibre contents are excellent for your health. As are the beta-carotenes in carrots and certain other orange coloured veggies like pumpkin or squash...
You can also make yourself vegetable cream soup boil them with a couple of bouillion cubes, then strain or purée the veggies with a little cream or half n' half, it makes them easier to take!
Actually the best way to eat veggies is raw...salads, etc ...
(If we ate properly we would consume 80% raw natural foods and only 20% cooked!!)
Another thing, oatmeal is a natural laxative...it is good for you but not in too large doses!
And bananas are good, like apples...one a day!
Have variety...don't overdo any one thing!

Yes, vegetables are necessary cause not everybody likes to eat oatmeal (especially me). nor raisins, but I do like banana's and banana's are considered more potassiam then fiber. According to all Dr.'s Yes no matter how healthy or unhealthy one is Yes you need your veggetables.

Veggies do have a couple of things in them that fruits don't have. Some of the minerals and trace elements, but if you take a multivitamin pill just to make sure, I think you would have no problems.
