Leviticus 19:28 says and you must not make cuts in your flesh for a deceased soul and you must not put tatto marking upon your selves. and Colossians 2:23 self imposed form of worship and mock humility asevere treatment of the body but they are of no value in combating the satisfying of the flesh.
So the bible clearly states that severe treatment of the body is not what god wants. some beat there selves with chains and walk on thier knees til they bled and suffer to serve God and yet the bible says that is not the right thing to do. So why do they do it?
In a play the man carried a bloody cross. thought it was kind of extreem but what purpose was it to serve? Just curious?

There is clearly no basis in the scriptures for treating our bodies in this way, . As Isaiah 48:17 states: “I, Jehovah, am your God, the One teaching you to benefit yourself, the One causing you to tread in the way in which you should walk.” so any requirements that god has for us can only benefit us, not cause us harm. These practices have been around since the ancients, they thought that physical suffering would bring them closer to god, but anybody who believes in the bible and still does these things is a hypocrite.

God’s Law specifically forbade the making of cuttings upon the flesh for the dead. (Le 19:28; 21:5; De 14:1) The reason for this was that Israel was a holy people to Jehovah, a special property. (De 14:2) As such, Israel was to remain free from all idolatrous practices. Then, too, such extreme displays of mourning accompanied by self-inflicted lacerations upon the flesh were most inappropriate for a people who were fully aware of the actual condition of the dead as well as the resurrection hope. (Da 12:13; Heb 11:19) Also, the prohibition against self-mutilation would have impressed upon the Israelites proper respect for God’s creation, the human body.

It's called "mortification". Mortification of the body has been practiced by mystics for ages, both in Christian and non-Christian faiths. Some people feel that punishing the body, which they view as a source of sin and evil, will result in a heightened spiritual state.

Your question is at the same time your answer. Jesus came to this world to carry with your sins and pain. You are 100% right, God does not want you suffer physically, he wants an "open" heart, not a bleeding one.

It serves no purpose, our works are as filthy rags (menstrual) in the sight of God. Religion is just man's attempt to reach God. Christ is the only way to the Father.

People do all sorts of stupid things. If punishing themselves physically makes them feel better, well, that's their thing. In any case, there are no gods, so it doesn't really have any greater significance.
