Ok, since no one who has answered you has even tried to answer your question I will. You start by pouring a shot of absinthe into a glass. You place a slotted spoon on top of the glass, generally a specially formed spoon called an Absinthe Spoon oddly enough. You then place 1-2 cubes of sugar on top of the slotted spoon. Then you drizzle water over the sugar cube so it dissolves it and sugar-water drains into the absinthe in the cup. This should start dispersing the herbs in the liquor turning it a milky green/white/yellow color depending on the quality of the absinthe. Stir the absinthe with the absinthe spoon as to mix it well. And then you drink it.

Note: Use ice cold water because putting ice into your absinthe is considered to be a form of treason withing the absinthe elite

French traditional way :

Place slotted spoon (or fork) over glass. Then place cube of white sugar on the spoon. Pour one shot of absinthe over it. Then pour icy-cold pure (distilled water) over sugar. Stir and drink.

Czech Flambe way :

Same as above, but light the cube of sugar before pouring the water.

Old Victorian way :

As above, but before lighting the cube, laudanum is usually added to the cube of sugar. Laudanum is not easy to get because it is actually a painkiller (medicine) used during that time. And it is OPIUM based.

Other ways :

1.Straight shots with sugar coated on the glass rim.

2. I have seen some using the opium glass to drink absinthe.

3. Drop one shot of absinthe (the glass as well) into a jug of lager beer and bottoms up.

For me, I like the Czech way or mixed with a sweet cognac/brandy.

Real absinthe is still totally banned in USA. In Europe, EU legal limit for the thuyone (extracted from wormwood) content is 10mg per litre. However, if you go to Spain and Czech Republic (these 2 countries does not give 2 hoots about the EU ruling), you can the original absinthe, with about 30mg to 100 mg per litre. The main thing about absinthe is not he alcohol content, but rather the thuyone content. The more thuyone, the more you will be like Van Gogh. Thuyone has a similar (not the same) molecular structure as THC, which is found in cannabis.

Good Luck. Don't over do it. It is a beautiful drink.
