Mixed breed!

Mixed breed mutts have more even dispositions than pure bred dogs, are healthier than pure bred and every mutt is a distinct individual in looks and personality.

I have a cute little (30 pound, may get as big as 35 pounds) nine month old mutt. He's dark, dark chocolate brown with some brindle trim on his paws and sides. His ancestry is fun to guess!

Here's what people have told me:

Aussie Cattle Dog x Lab x terrier of some sort

Aussie Cattle Dog x Beagle x terrier of some sort

And the wierdest.....daschund x pit bull!

He's mellow, smart, has a very sleek, low maintenance coat and is just plain fun!

A mutt is the best! I found my sweetheart at www.petfinders.com

It depends on your lifestyle. There is a dog out there for you, but you must think about your lifestyle. Do you have children? Do you live alone or with many people? How much time do you usually have to train and housetrain a dog? What will you do when you go on vacation? How much time will you be willing to spend to walk your dog? Can you afford a dog?

All these situations have a dog that can go with them. I would suggest learning all you can about breeds you are interested in. Get a book at the library filled with dog breeds (with pictures with each breed) and learn about their ideal lifestyle. Eventually, you will find a dog that goes with your needs and lifestyle. Also, talk to dog owners you know...and if you don't know any, ask people you see on the street with dogs, because they are often very friendly and willing to share knowledge with you.

By the way, I have a Mini Schnauzer. I love those dogs!

I've had many different breeds of dogs, German Shepherds, Miniature Schnauzers, Beagles, Labs and Basset Hounds plus several mixed-breeds. Each of them had/have great traits and I couldn't say any were better than the others. A lot depends on your situation. The size of your home and lawn, whether you have other pets or children, how much time you can afford to give to grooming, etc... There are some great books out there for people trying to decide on a breed of dog and they give comparisons in size, activity level, temperament, common health problems, compatibility with kids/other pets, etc.. Good luck with your decision, you'll know him or her as soon as you see it!

Well...that really is a matter of opinion...

if you ask me...South African Boerboels, English Bullmastiffs and rottweilers are the best dogs. I have owned all of them and currently own a South African Boerboel. She is great with kids, she patrols our yard at night doing "sentry duty" to ensure no intruders enter our yard, she is very well trainned...you can go as far at to put a piece of fresh meat on her nose and she will not eat it until you tell her its okay, and even though she isnt a year old but weights in just over 130lbs. Of course she is great with kids, but that is because she has been taught how to behave and my daughter is always supervised when playing with such large animal...she is only 2. Animals, especially dogs are what you make them to be. Get a pure bred dog from a puppy - 6 weeks old. And then from that moment make it your lifes mission to ensure that dog is cared for as you would want to be cared for. Big dogs...especailly huge dogs like mine are a massive responsibility. She will probably be about 150lbs when fully grown. If you are not looking to spend large amounts of time training your dog and bonding with it then I suggest that you get a smaller dog. As a big dog owner, as all big dog owners it is important that you realise that your dog is potentially a killer, with the right care and attention there is no danger of this happening. Choose the breed that is right for you, your lifestyle, your family and what you want out of a dog. Do research, talk to breeders and make sure that you buy your dog from a registered breeder, not from some backyard breeder as you can never be really sure what you are getting. Also, dogs are a lifetime commitment...are you prepared to look after this dog for 10+ years? If you are then go ahead and get yourself the dog in the breed of your choice. My animals have bought me nothing but joy through their entire lives.

That depends on what you want in a dog. I wholeheartily agree with checking your local human society/rescue for dogs (puppies too) Go to the AKC website for information about particutlar breeds. I have a shelter dog-bassett/lab mix and a boxer. My favorite breed: Old English Sheepdog (we had one of those for 12 years)

Labrador Retrievers are my favorite. They are the most common dog, but they can get too big for some people to manage. Jack Russel Terriers can be very cute but full of energy. I have German Short-hair Pointer. He is very handsome and very playful. If I were to get another dog I probably get a Yellow Lab.

Depends on you. My best breed can be your worst. I like big mellow dogs, but I've learned to love Jack Russells when I met my husband. He's smart, very demanding but funny, and he knows all kind of cool tricks. ( the Jack that is... ah! ah! )

P.S. We also have 2 Boxers and 1 Golden Retriever.

If you're looking for a good watchdog, an ingelligent, extremely loyal dog who's great with kids, get either a Golden Retriever or a Labrador Retriever. They're excellent dogs all around.
