It was ok last hol, then suddenly, the picture is a mess, cannot hear the sound or see picture due to horizontal stripes.

The camcorder probably needs a head cleaning. Dirt gets on the recording head and causes errors when recording. Stop buy your local electronics store and look for a cleaning cassette. It will be near where regular tapes are. Just run it for a few seconds and it should fix the problem. If not, you know its somehting more serious and you should check with the manufacturer.
