It's for revenge. George Herbert Bush didn't finish the job in the early 1990s that's why George W. is finishing it right now. Even to the point of accusing Iraq that they have WMDs that can' t be found.

I know that it is not possible but I wish that all of the people that ask questions like this could have my experience in having lived in Islamic societies. We are fighting to maintain our freedoms and nothing more. Oil is just a bullshit excuse from those that know nothing. Their oil is not worth a damn without the demand of industrialized nations for it. They sure can not eat it and they, the arabs, have never had enough other resources, natural or mental, to develope any type of industry. Also, it is not for revenge. If we choose to fight everyone with whom we had a little disagreement we would still be fighting England, Spain, Mexico, and the whole continent of Africa. Let along Japan, China, India and all the rest of Asia. Why can you and your kind not accept that we are fighting for our survival and it is one hell of a lot better to do it on their turf than here on the soil of The United States of America.

Well, it can't be for the oil - there's other places to get oil. It can't be to stop terrorism - there's more terrorism now than there was before the invasion. It can't be to save lives - more people are dying. It's not to create jobs - there are more lay offs than we've seen in years. It's not to make us popular - we're've never been more unpopular. It can't be to save anyone - there have been forty thousand civilian deaths in Iraq since the invasion. It's not for peace , cause there is no peace. It's not to put a government in place that's friendly to the US - they're not friendly to the US. It can't be for revenge - they never really did anything.
I guess we're there for a good reason, whatever it is.

Neoconservatives believed they could remake the middle east into a "new middle east" which would be accepting of democracy, capitalism and Israel. Iraq was just the start. They are hoping to continue on this path, which has worked so well, by taking down the governments of Iran and Syria. They feel it's important to get going on Iran and Syria a.s.a.p. while Bush is still in power. They know they won't get as malleable a president again. If this sounds crazy, check out the latest Weekly Standard on line.

We are in Iraq because George W. Bush and his friends thought they knew better than almost all the other experts, historians and grandfathers in the Country. I along with several hundred thousand people marched against this war before it started because we had seen this movie in the 60's and 70's and knew it was a loser.
But, spoiled and cocky, Bush went ahead and tried to make himself the greatest President of all times in his own imagination, but this Emperor stepped on the deck of the Aircraft Carrier, stark naked, and began act two of the biggest tragedy of choice in American Foreign Policy history.

In my opinion...and this is only my opinion...we are fighting because Bush wants to try to fix everyone else's problem...as if America doesnt have enough to worry about? Do you know that BILLIONS of dollars is being spent (on a daily basis) into this war...for what? I do not know....these Iraqi people do NOT want our help. We need to worry about the poor, giving our children better education, and a mess of other stuff that america needs to work on. Why cant we bring all our soldiers home and put that money towards a cure for AIDS? My husband is out in his 3rd deployment in Afghanistan...and I am the proudest wife out there. Just wish they could all come back home

Probably for both! Good question! Revenge for not getting the business contract before invasion-having to accede to other demand for our hidden agenda. We have to conclude this is the reason since there is and was not any 9/11 connection to warrant our invasion.
AND Mr. Bin Laden is alive and well (probably enjoying his tea).

we are fighting because iraq blew up the world trade center and the twin towers killing thousands of americans. think of this cenario if a lets use adults if one adult attackes another adult they will be punished just like iraq attacked us and we punished the person behind it and his followers and now we are helping the citizens ,who were forceed under his rule, to build a new government because we are punishing their past leader!!!
